I understand that. My only contention is, why throw out all of these hypothetical outcomes if you haven't got all the information at your disposal? Is that not what he did? Or do I misunderstand? If so, I apologize.

I see your point, but I thought that Baden's comments were very measured and objective. As I understand it, Baden is waiving his normal fee and charging only his expenses to the Brown family. Still, he performed the autopsy on the Browns' behalf and apparently they requested that he participate in the press conference.

 

My interpretation of Baden's comments and responses to questions is that they were not as helpful to his clients' case as they were to the officer's version of events - and the officer only needs to establish reasonable doubt that the witnesses are lying or mistaken.

That was a great scene in an underrated movie. I also liked the scene when Vinny showed up for court in a tux when he couldn't find a business suit to rent.

Agreed but it does show the angle they will take should there be a trial.

If they take that approach and their own expert witness goes on record contradicting them, then things would not go well for the prosecution or for the Browns if there is a civil suit.

They can try this whole case with grandstanding and get the community even more in a tizzy. When the facts are tried, and the proof stands on it's own, if the outcome is opposed to local public opinion, they'll have to call in the national guard. The attorney for the Browns did the community no service by offering his opinion on the forensics in my opinion.

I don't think this will go to a criminal case, but it may very well end up in Civil Court.

I don't know much, but I do know for certain that you couldn't pay me enough to be a police officer. You are darned if you do and darned if you don't. I'd have to think twice about defending myself against someone of a different race or someone who could possibly be a young adult because it wouldn't matter what circumstances led to the result, all that would be seen is that I hurt or killed a young person who may have just made bad decisions and not respected authority but didn't deserve to die for it and I should have thought about it before shooting. (Because there's so much time to consider that in the 45 seconds something like this takes place)

 

And of course, they're almost always "great kids who never hurt anybody and were just getting ready to go to college." After they rob a store or drive drunk or assault someone...the next stop was math class.

 

I think that this will end up going to trial, but a large part of it will be due to public pressure and political pressure and not as much about what evidence points to actually occurred. Unless evidence clearly says the officer executed the young man after he had stopped and put his hands up in the air, I don't see how a jury could come to a conclusion on what occurred without reasonable doubt about the alternative. I guess will be interesting to see once more comes to light.

Exactly and that is why I refuse to watch the press conferences because they are always slanted to their side of the argument and come off very unfair and inflammatory.
