On Monday, Brossart Athletic Director Adam Franzen issued a communication to the Brossart student body.

It reads: I am sending this email to inform everyone where the school stands with Football. Coach Lee Teegarden has resigned his position as head coach. I want to thank Coach Teegarden for his hard work during his time as the Head Football Coach. As the new Athletic Director of Brossart High School, I have been gathering information about the situation with Football and this is where we stand:

I need to be notified directly by email by Friday, June 13 from every player who is committed to playing football this year. I know you are going to have questions about the coach and the schedule. We have coaching candidates and there has NOT been any decision made about scheduling despite what you may have heard about going independent. I need to know how many players we have before making any further decisions. We will have a meeting next Monday at 6pm for all players who have committed to playing Brossart Football.

NOTE: This information rescinds the announcement published by the previous administration

It's a catholic school. They can get away with murder! KHSAA rules don't apply to them.

If money and enrollment is an issue. You can cut a lot of money with operating 1 building with 1 principal, AD, 1 coach for each sport rather than 2. IMO the only thing keeping this from happening is the 'strong family ties' argument. If makes fiscal sense for the NCC and Brossart to combine.

Where would this new building be? How would it be paid for? What becomes of the current campuses? If it where to be built in Cold Spring they would loose most of the inner city kids for sure, and if it were built in ,say, Southgate they would loose a lot of county kids. The area it would cover is way too large and both schools have roots that would not allow it. Theoretically sounds good but WAY too many hurdles for it to happen.

If Bishop Hughes had put some teeth into the districting plan that he had devised, we would all be running as successful businesses with kids from their designated district parishes attending their district high schools. However, he backed down and allowed kids to virtually go wherever they wanted to, basically destroying his districting business plan. It has been open season on kids from the Brossart feeders ever since.

 

Perhaps Bishop Foys, who has never taken a strong (or any) stand on this issue needs to re-visit it.

Why is it just open season on the kids from Brossart feeders? Kids from other feeder systems can go to Brossart if they choose. The train runs both ways.

That seems to back up Mustang's point (Districting seems only to be important to those of us negatively effected by the "open enrollment" mentality. Those schools who benefit by the "Open Enrollment" mentality embrace it.) very succinctly.

I don't have any kids attending either school, but if I were to spend over $6,000 a year in tuition I don't think it is fair to tell me I can only send my child to a specific school. You really think a number of kids at NCC for instance who would be forced to go to Brossart because of where they live would actually go there? They would simply choose Campbell Co. or Highlands. See where the enrollments for both schools would go then. A parent who is willing to spend that kind of money should not be forced to choose one school over another simply to keep that school afloat. As was mentioned before, "Build it and they will come".

Best fit for the kid, period. I've had 'em everywhere in this county, for various reasons, parochial, public and independent. My money, my choice. I gave each of my kids options, attended open houses and we talked about it. BBHS, NCC, HHS, CCHS all offer very good academics, athletics and social / extra-curricular programs.

 

It is difficult to field / build a new football program without a history and tradition and a solid feeder program. Football just happens to be one of the only sports that requires larger numbers of athletic participants to be competitive. You can't make football teams from non-football athletes, but you can build solid teams in other sports with good over all athletes. It's simple numbers for football.

 

I rooted hard for BBHS football, looked very hard at the program as a potential for my oldest a few years ago. Bottom line, he didn't want to attend BBHS because it was the same group of kids that he had attended parochial grade school with and he wanted to some new faces.

 

I wish for the best for BBHS. I think they could use a huge influx of dedicated money to build a good football field and start a youth feeder program in the southern part of the county. I hope they find a generous donor in the future to make this happen.

Hence, Northern KY Catholic. If you are Catholic or want to play sports for the largest Catholic HS in KY then you go to NKC.

 

Combination of CovCath, NewCath, Brossart and bring St Henry out of independence. They some athletes there now...WOW

 

Now we are talking T strength...JMO

 

I truly believe this is reality rather than just speculation, it is all about the money and the money just aint there anymore and it is time to start thinking outside of the box. :thumb:
