Hasn't the Campbell County Catholic, Northern KY Consolidated Catholic, etc. been beat to death over the years? I know the BB/NCC merger was studied, as was a larger HC, BB, NCC and St. Henry considered at one time? Land was supposedly even considered near St. Joe for the former, and where Fidelity is now for the latter?? Doubt any of these would happen now, as they didn't earlier when it made more sense??

If money and enrollment is an issue. You can cut a lot of money with operating 1 building with 1 principal, AD, 1 coach for each sport rather than 2. IMO the only thing keeping this from happening is the 'strong family ties' argument. If makes fiscal sense for the NCC and Brossart to combine.

However, he backed down and allowed kids to virtually go wherever they wanted to, basically destroying his districting business plan. It has been open season on kids from the Brossart feeders ever since.

 

Perhaps Bishop Foys, who has never taken a strong (or any) stand on this issue needs to re-visit it.

IMO, Dick was an outsider who did not have the personality needed to endear himself to the families of Brossart. It wasn't a good fit from the beginning, again, IMO.

Not true. District boundaries still exist as it comes to which parishes are designated "feeder parishes" and some restrictions do apply as to what is permitted outside of your own district.

 

Some schools have become very adept at spreading their message via outside sources. In our case, it is somewhat easy for other schools to lure a Brossart feeder student to the bright lights of an out-of-district school, whereas there is no advantage for Brossart to promote to kids from an NCC/CovCath district feeder, because we exist outside of their realm of existance. A St. Catherine/St. Therese or a St. Agnes/Blessed Sacrament kid simply isn't coming to Alexandria to go to Brossart.

 

Districting seems only to be important to those of us negatively effected by the "open enrollment" mentality. Those schools who benefit by the "Open Enrollment" mentality embrace it.

Cov Cath is playing tricks? I'm pretty confident that the Aaron Floyd transfer has to do with the fact that Aaron doesn't want to spend his senior playing on a 0-11 football team, and the fact that his brother has been an assistant coach at Cov Cath for two years. Cov Cath will undoubtedly benefit from his transfer, should the KHSAA allow it, but it's no "trick". The decision to transfer away from Boone County was Aaron Floyd's and his family's. Do you really think Cov Cath has agents out in all of the Northern Kentucky schools at random, busy talking to all the best athletes in the shadows and luring them to come play sports in Park Hills?

Correct, but I thought Bishop Foys changed things so that any student from any Catholic parish could go to any Catholic school - or at least high school - without being charged "out of district" tuition for going beyond their feeder schools.

I don't see how this is any different than Kenton County's open enrollment or the city of Louisville. Students decide where they want to go to high school for their education and play sports. Brossart has to make their football program more attractive to get the players they need to succeed. Look at Beechwood, they have had kids from all over the Northern Kentucky area to play there and it is a 1A program. Why? because they have a chance to bring home a state title and have very good facilities. If Brossart wants to continue football they are going to have to invest in the future, (with a home stadium and practice facilities). Also, they need to rally the adminstration to get on board as well to find the money to make it happen. This is not going to be a quick fix. They need to sell the program at the youth level. They need to interact with the Red Devils and Campbell County Thunder to get potential players excited about the Brossart program. Have a Brossart night for these organizations at one of their football games and try to get the Mustangs name out there.
