@McMurphyESPN: Manhattan’s Steve Masiello had USF job offer pulled because he never graduated from Kentucky, as indicated on resume, sources told @ESPN

Shows a lot about his character if true. Lied on resume about graduating coupled with the derby ticket scam...

I think Massiello thought he had a degree.

Well I mean since ANYBODY can get one from UK... :D

Although this is not anywhere near as big, this reminds me of George O'Leary getting hired by Notre Dame (football) only for it to be found a few days later his resume wasn't 100% accurate. Stupid on the coach to lie about it and equally stupid that the Universities don't cross their t's and dot their i's before hiring.

Well, unfortunately, that seems like something small but that will do it every time.

Definitely seems small to me. Why he wouldn't tell the truth and why he wouldn't get hired because of that is kind of stupid on both their parts to me.

I am curious as to you guys perspective. Is it small because you feel like coaches do not need to have the degree? Is it small because you feel like he unintentionally deceived? Is it small because misleading on the resume is small?

I do not think this is a small thing. I think that this is a fine reason to terminate a deal, especially if he lied intentionally. I am fairly certain all head coaching gigs at the collegiate level require a college degree; I am 100% certain this will be the case for a basketball coaching gig at the Division 1 level.

Wow this is crazy...Jones is going to go nuts on KSR today...got to make sure I listen today.

If he didn't have his degree how was he enrolled in grad school, did Manhattan never follow up and ask for his transcripts?

The best part about that is that Jones hung out with Masiello a few weeks ago in New York. He was talking on the radio about how he likes Masiello. Guess we'll see today.

Wasn't there another top level college job that had the same issue?

Prior to that he seemed to not like him, it will be interesting.

Can he go back to Manhattan?

I'd be stunned if they took him back knowing he doesn't have a degree AND bolted for USF, JMO.

I think Massiello thought he had a degree.

Come on VOR. You can't possibly believe what you just typed. A person knows whether or not they have a degree from a University. There is no mistaking that.

The most interesting thing was that Masiello began at UL as a grad assistant which means he had to be enrolled in grad school. Hmmm

This may seem rather obvious to someone else but I know professional schools like the UK College of Pharmacy as well as other pharmacies do not require students applying into those schools after ungrad to have a degree (although it is moving towards having a 4-year degree before applying now)...... is there a chance that any particular graduate school is similar? Although it seems implied based on the name alone :D.

I'm just speaking from my personal experience of currently being in pharmacy school where I didn't have to have a degree but just needed to get the pre-requisite classes and apply before going through my interviews, etc.. Not all professional schools are like this however as Medical School requires everyone to have a degree in something before applying. Just wondering if there was an exception in this case...

The joke is on you guys. Massiello still has one year of eligibility and Cal is planning to start him when the Twins leave.
