Saw rumblings of this on Twitter the other day.

I not sure its the right job for him. I think he could have gotten a better job.

@mcquad BREAKING: Steve Masiello just met with his team to tell them he officially accepted offer to USF, sources say.

@mcquad Steve Masiello was offered the USF job last night for 5 years, $6.2 million, according to @USFCollin .

With the talent in Florida, I see no reason why this job can't be a very good job.

I don't know about any other UK fans, but I think it's pretty cool. I still remember when he came to UK for the sole purpose of learning under Coach Pitino because he wanted to coach. He wasn't much of a player but very few really good players become really good coaches. Rick P saw something in the kid from his part of the country and brought him down to Kentucky. He had that goofy looking mohawk or high and tight and got a minute here and there during some games but was mostly a bench warmer.

Pretty cool to see that his dream and what he worked so hard for has paid off. He not only got to fulfill his dream by coaching, but has been coaching at the DI level and now is about to become a millionaire. Pretty cool.

I think he's a great young coach. I like Masiello a lot.

Good get for USF. I am surprised Masiello took this gig. I think if he waited, he could have been in the running for some teams that are set up to win sooner like Xavier or Providence if those open.

Seen they found a discrepancy while they were doing his background check.

South Florida has rescinded a five-year offer to Manhattan's Steve Masiello to become their next coach after a search firm found a previously undetected discrepancy in his background check, The Tampa Tribune has reported, citing a source close to the search.

Masiello, 36, regarded by many as one of the top young coaches in the country, had agreed to the deal leaving only financial details to be worked out, according to The Tribune.

The newspaper reported the contract was believed to be worth more than $1 million per season.

It wasn't clear if Masiello was eligible to return to Manhattan in the wake of the deal falling through or what it was specifically that Eastman & Beaudine, a Texas-based search firm, found in the background check.

What could possibly be in there that isn't already known by the public?

Yikes. That's not good.

Don't know how true this is, but read this :

He was involved with some kind of ticket scam at UofL a few years ago.

It must be really serious to resend the contract.
