Facts: Gilbert has an offer from Tn Tech. Winthrop is going to offer next week. He can play D1 if he chooses to. I know he was hoping to be a niche player at a higher level school.

 

Rumor: Ole Miss expressed some interest this weekend.

 

I can confirm that he has a Tennessee Tech offer and their coaching staff loves his game. He can definitely play Division I if he chooses to.

Congratulations to the Colonel Nation on claiming a state title. As a young kid I remember the Holmes heartbreak of losing to Shelby County in 1978 and then having a few close calls in 2000 and 2008 and finally exorcising the demons in a thriller in 2009 to claim a state title. I would reckon there are some ole blue bloods who are savoring this victory and an exorcism of losing to Earlington in the late 60's.

 

I had a conversation with Holmes head coach Jason Booher the other day and he said CCH reminded him of his Shelby Valley state championship team. Very similar personnel in regards to size at the starting positions and having that dominate high school point guard (E. Justice/Ruthsatz).

 

I was told the attendance for the finals was more like 10k than 14k, but that is to be expected to an extent. I think that Wed-Sun is too long and it is tough for many of the coaches who flock to Lexington to stay 4 nights. That is part of the reason why you have lower numbers on Sunday, plus there are gobs of freebies floating around on Sunday. In addition, this was going to be an interesting Sweet 16 to watch based on changes in how tickets and hotel rooms could be purchased by schools, because of the new finance policy that was adopted by the state in regards to purchasing tickets and so forth for coaches use. No longer can public schools use money from the school's activity fund to purchase tickets and rooms for the state tournament. Hence, unless the school's district was going to purchase tickets/rooms/and pay for substitute teachers, then more than likely the coaches were going to be buying tickets and rooms own their own dime. That can get expensive really quick.

 

The above is probably better suited for its own thread and didn't mean to hijack the thread, but celebrate on Colonel Nation.

Toughest region? Congrats to them on the win, but let's not lose all reality.

We are talking about 3 schools that were consistently ranked in the top 10 in the state this season in NCC, Holmes and Cov Cath.

 

That is pretty darn impressive if you ask me.

Having been at every game this past week I'd be kind of surprised if the attendance numbers on Sunday afternoon weren't the highest numbers for the week. Looked like the best crowd of the week to me.

I want to again congratulate Cov Cath for winning the State Title!!! What a great story! The 9th Region had some great teams this year, CCH, NCC and Holmes all would have represented well at the sweet 16! CCH had that magical run that will be remembered for lifetimes.

 

I also wanted to commend Scott Co. on a great sports year. Winning the 6A title in Football and coming within a made shot in regulation to wining another state title this year. I want to say although I didn't make it there in person, I watched it on the KHSAA stream and followed along with PP92's updates on here. The Martini kid, WOW!!! What a game he had. I don't know if they had a game MVP or not, but he was definitely it!!!!

 

I'm so happy for some of my best friends growing up who had kids on this CCH team! What a great feeling and I'm still smiling a day later....this is awesome! Way to bring back the trophy to the 9th region and NKY! NKY may only have 3 Basketball titles in the 88 year existence of the tournament but 2 of those were in the last 5 years. NKY is representing pretty well now if you ask me.

 

It's great to see all the accolades from the other 9th region coaches being laid on CCH also. CCH didn't just win this title for themselves, but for a region that although fights through some great games still always seems to pull for eachother and root eachother on.

 

How fun was this tournament!?!?!

 

Great job PP92 also, you did a fantastic job with your updates!!! They were very fast and no delay at all. You did great buddy!

Ruthsatz leads Covington Catholic to KHSAA boys’ title

 

 

"LEXINGTON, Ky. – Nick Ruthsatz got the last laugh.

 

Critics said — at 5 feet 9 — he was too small to make an impact. Others wrote him off after he signed with Findlay, an NCAA Division II school in Ohio.

 

“Well,” Ruthsatz said, “I just won a state championship.”

 

And he did it with flair.

 

Ruthsatz scored 16 of his game-high 25 points over the fourth quarter and overtime as Covington Catholic High School rallied to beat Scott County 59-51 in Sunday’s final of the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Sweet 16 in front of 14,165 fans at Rupp Arena."

No way he is a div 1 player. Not a chance. He was silenced today by a 16 year old freshman. End of story.

 

You are so wrong and I can tell you that he will quite the fools that say he is not D-1. He may not be big time D-1 but he can play at that level. Now hats off to Cov. Cath, their kids played with a lot of guts and WON it all today. But to say that the freshman shut him down is not true. He had double team and triple team help at times. Most of the day as soon as he crossed half court someone else was coming. Now Gilbert forced way too much and I was hoping on the last play that Billy would have taken a play out of Christian Co. play book and Trent as a decoy, would have probably got a better shot off. Oh BTW Trent has done this to everyone he has played ALL year in the 11th region and beyond. He just had a bad game and it came at the worst time. Hats off to Cov. Cath and the Scott Co. boys have nothing to hang their heads about, Great job by them all year.

IMO a Coach with that resume and 5 Asst Coaches on the bench someone would work with their Big man. All I've heard is what an upside he had, someone better start climbing that mountain real soon or are they counting on Jesse to do it for them!

 

Once again a poster not knowing the facts. Long has played basketball for 3 years total. He is only 15, he needs to get in the weight room and get strong and become more explosive. He will improve and he did improve all year long. You can tell by watching him he is awkward in his body. As time and work happens he will develop and be a good player. He totally effected the big kid from Trinity that everyone raved about after the Hoptown game. Rae will be fine. I feel like they did not look at him enough yesterday which could have helped with an inside out game to free up the shooters for Scott Co.

Congrats to Cov Cath. Lucky they only had to play one guality team with their draw.

 

They had to beat 3 top 10 teams to win the state title... NCC, Holmes and Scott County. That my friend, is called "running the gauntlet... beast-mode style!" (Give them boys some skittles!!)

Congratulations Colonels. Great story. Love how the team and coach give the fan base the props right after the game. Spectacular.

 

It may have been said earlier but Parker Keller #14 did a GREAT job defending Gilbert in the 4th quarter and other times during the game after CVH fouled out. Everyone was expecting Gilbert to explode in the 4th quarter but it just didn't happen. Bo Schuh #11 didn't have the points but he is asked to do an awful lot and battles hard underneath. He had some key rebounds down the stretch and played great D.

 

The 9th Region was the toughest in the state this year. The stats bear it out.

 

CCH wins state and beat 10th region champ Campbell County as well in regular season.

NCC beats Trinity on road, PRP, KCC, Brossart and others.

Holmes beats some nice teams including CCH

Dixie did ok as well.

 

 

Way to go CCH and 9th Region.

 

I spent five days down there and the people down at the Hyatt bar definitely know about the 9th region with the big time scheduling that has happened of late. Believe me. They give full credit where its due.
