Covington Catholic 59 Scott County 51 OT (Sweet 16 Championship)

What you are missing is that Cole is a 15 year old freshman who will improve every year and that Gilbert is a one man show who doesn't make his team better around him like Cole. Gilbert can shoot. Thats it. Cole will be light years ahead of where Gilbert is now.

Where is the "block" button?

How many varsity points did Cole score at Villa Madonna last year as an 8th grader? Wouldn't those points count towards his varsity total?

Yes to the varsity total. No to the CCH record.

Congrats to Cov Cath. Lucky they only had to play one guality team with their draw.

Did you happen to watch any of their games??

Let's not go overboard. Hicks is a good coach who works the refs. You don't see him getting T's. I think his record speaks for itself. He's a very good basketball coach, point blank, period.

Accomplishments:

- 2 KY State Championships

- 5 KY State Finals Appearances

- Coached the McDonald's All-American Team

Not a bad resume. Let's be real. He wasn't the coach of the better team tonight, but you'd be crazy to say you wouldn't want him on your sideline.

I agree with you on the resume, but I WOULD NOT want him on my sideline. Sorry. JMO. Not at all a fan of him or his way of running the program.

Someone posted about "being lucky" with their draw. As Skinner reminded me today they had to play two of the top teams in the state in back-to-back games just to GET to the Sweet 16.

So true. Spalding never got comfortable offensively against Long and I thought that was the best game that I have seen Long play all season and I watched him about 7 or 8 times this season. Once he develops more of a low post game and learns to play with his body he should be fine. I didn't know he has only been playing 3 years. I see tons of upside if he can continue to improve and learn the game properly.

I'd argue that Spalding isn't that much farther ahead of Long offensively.

Surely you say that in jest.

I watched Trinity 4 times this season and he has never wowed me with his offensive skills. Everything in his game seems to be above average except for his ability to score the ball.

I'm going to say their offensive skills aren't close. While Ray doesn't score a lot his ball skills are strong IMO.

I'm with PP92 in not being overly impressed with Spalding's offensive game, but I really like him. He is a game-changer just for his defensive abilities.

7,14,11 are his 3 game point totals from the Sweet 16. 6-8 against Hoptown, 2-7 against Owensboro, 4-11 against Scott County.

12-26 overall.

Just saying.....if his offensive skills catch up with the rest of his game and abilities next year then there is absolutely no question who the best player in the state will be next year. His game is that damn good everywhere else.

One of which beat them in the district championship.

Side note: Scott Co. also lost their district title game so the state champ was going to be a district runner up regardless of who won.

I hadn't seen anyone post about it previously, but have there been any other Sweet 16 championship games that ended in overtime? I was curious about that one.

2011 Christian county won in OT as well

According to nkysports.com, Cole had 375 points at Villa during his 8th grade season. Add that to his 381 CCH points (per Clyde) this year and he should go over 1,000 career points during his sophomore season. I'll be surprised if he doesn't score more than 2,000 points in his career.

Man oh man....triple OT. I thought MY blood pressure was high yesterday when I was in the stands. I'd have stroked out if it had gone to triple OT. I wonder how the foul situation was in that game. Was it JV team versus JV team by the time the third round of overtime came around?
