March 21, 201412 yr He may be gone but the memory of him and his spot at David C. will never leave my mind. I will always picture him right there. Rest in peace.
March 21, 201412 yr I'm honestly at a loss for words. My heart is broken as I will miss Dave greatly. When I first joined BGP way back in Jan of 2002 Dave was one of the very first people to shoot me a pm, and make me feel welcome. My dad died in March of 2002, and Dave was there again sending me words of comfort, and giving me his phone number if I wanted to talk. I finally met Dave at a Reds game at one of our 1st ever BGP gatherings. Dave even helped me helped me pull a prank on Rockmom at a later BGP gathering as we had convinced Rockmom my friend I had brought with me was EKYReporter. I'm sure many of you remember him, and the controversy he used to spark here on BGP. Dave was always up for a good practical joke. We talked often, and have exchanged Christmas cards every year. Dave would always comment on the changes my twins made over the years. Dave had a heart of Gold, and I look forward to the day I'll see him again. I know at that time he'll be able to stand, and give me a hug. Till then Birdsfan.
March 21, 201412 yr Sadly for many of us Dave is not the only BGPer to leave us. It's strange to think that we've lost as many as we have. I was just thinking about that last night as I read rockmom's post on Facebook. Off the top of my head we've lost Birdsfan LSURock Westsider Alabama Larry I know there are others I just can't think of them off the top of my head. I remember all the fun I used to have with Dave back when I was in college and much more active on here. Watching the Highlands-Boyle title game in 2004 with him and then getting blamed for HHS losing because they were winning until I had to run to my car and get my dayquil. At which point Boyle kicked to crap out of them. Sorry HHS fans, that one was my fault. Can't forget the prank that he and gametime played on me with Birdsfan's alternate account. Shoot I remember back in 2006 I used to call him after Trinity games to get HHS updates. I'm going to miss him. I wish I had made more of the BGP gatherings in NKY. See ya Birdsfan. I'm going to miss you. :-(
March 21, 201412 yr I have been avoiding this thread because it's so sad and beautiful at the same time. I never met Birdsfan, but he was always so kind to me here on BGP. I enjoyed his humor. But I really admired his faith. He loved the Catholic Church and he lived it. He knew how to express it and define his faith in such a simple and gentle way. This in turn made me learn more and be more proud of my faith as well. God Bless you Birdsfan. Thank you for walking the walk and talking the talk, right here on these BGP threads. March 21, 201412 yr It is very telling when you lose somebody and feel the loss that affects so many people who knew him. It is even more telling when you lose someone that you've never met in person and your heart still aches. Dave, I've never had the pleasure to meet you in person. I was finally going to get the chance at the last BGP get together this winter but I had my own medical condition that prevented me to get there that night. How Ironic is that. The man has been through more than many of us could ever comprehend yet it was me who couldn't make the get together. He was BGP especially after Friday night football games. If ever BGP needed an ambassador, Dave was it. I've been to Highlands games, but never realized the man by the rail was Dave although I've seen him, I just didn't realize who it was. There will be an open spot on the rail but it isn't because Dave won't be there because he will. Dave will be standing on the sidelines from here on out at every Highlands game. Dave, if ever there was a role model on how to just be a decent human being, you would be it. God Bless, say hello to my mom and dad as you smile down on us. Thanks for being you.
March 21, 201412 yr I never had the pleasure of meeting you but I always enjoyed your posts. It's not gonna be the same around here without BF, you were and will always be apart of the BGP Family. RIP my brother!!
March 21, 201412 yr I know he is in a better place looking down knowing that he was loved by so many. RIP.
March 21, 201412 yr Thanks for keeping me lifted up in prayer. They have worked! When I'm better and able to talk, I will share some examples. I've been pleading with Christ to explain what it it is he wants me to find in all of this sudden reversal of what I thought was a blessed new life and a calling for my future. I think he wants me to find....Him. I keep going back to this post. although short, it I think sums up a lot as far as his belief and the type of person he was.
March 21, 201412 yr I'd like to commend you RTS for your especially fantastic and beautiful display of unconditional friendship that you and Dave shared, and for you always being by his side through thick and thin. If there ever was a great example of what it means to be a true friend, no one needs to look any further than your friendship with Dave. This was quite apparent, and I only was in your company one time, but it left a lasting impression. My prayers are with you in your loss, and I have to believe that your soul has been enriched beyond words to have had the joy of sharing such a wonderful friendship with Dave.
March 21, 201412 yr Sorry to hear this. I will miss how he could always make me laugh on here. Prayers for his family.
March 21, 201412 yr Dammit. A bright light in the world is gone. His wit, positive attitude and love of his Bluebirds will be forever missed by me. I met Dave once, but he was a very good friend. We interacted offline through the years and I even hired him to do some copywriting, once. The world is a darker place, today. :(
March 21, 201412 yr I’m just devastated, as many of you know, Dave was my best friend and was always thought of and treated as a member of my family and I was treated in kind by him and his wonderful family. This has hit me really hard because I love the guy. The solace for me in all this is seeing how much people thought of Dave. The outpouring of love and support for him and his family has been tremendous and that is a testament to what a terrific guy Dave was and how he touched so many lives in such a kind, gracious and warmhearted manner. Driving home today hit me particularly hard because I would often call him on my way home from work to see how he was doing or how he was feeling and he would get such a kick out of me road raging to some degree and just laugh and tell me how much he loved “the four o’clock therapy calls”, the therapy being for me of course. It hit me that I will never get to do that again and I pretty much lost it. Odd how powerful something like that can be. I remember Dave asked me a few weeks ago to pray and ask others to pray that he would be able to be here long enough to do God’s work and that was all he really wanted. I thought to myself, Dave you’ve been doing God’s work all these years and don’t even realize it, and that was only because he always wanted to give more. Dave meant so much to me and if only I had the God given talent that he was blessed with I’d be able to eloquently express it to you, but I don’t have that gift so all I can tell you is I loved him and always will. He will forever be in my heart and forever a part of me. I will never forget his kindness and compassion, how he helped me through tough times like last year when I lost my mom. His spirituality was not only admirable; it was inspiring and infectious in a very positive way. He was so kind and generous to others and without concern for himself, always eager to help anyone that needed it. He made me a better person and a better Christian even though I’m still not half the man he was and I doubt I ever could be. I sit and think of all the wonderful times Dave and I had, the fun we had, how I corrupted him as he would jokingly say. I think of how much he meant to me and my family, how he was always there for us. I think of how giving he was, how compassionate, kind, and forgiving. I think of how brilliant he was all the while being humble. I think of all these things and say, thank you dear God for blessing me all these years with the most wonderful, dear friend that anyone could ever have the privilege to be blessed with. I am forever grateful for his friendship and the time we had.
March 21, 201412 yr We have lost a brother and a Highlands teammate in Dave.... Iam truly humbled by his sacrifices RIP dear friend...:thumb:
