Birdsfan, my friend...

Featured Replies

TB&G's original post is one of the most touching things I've read on BGP.

I never had the good fortune of meeting Dave, but it's easy to see how much of an influence he has had. I don't know specifically everything he had dealt with from a health standpoint, but I know he faced incredible physical adversity on a seemingly daily basis. And yet his most endearing qualities seem to be his: 1) Faith in the Lord. 2) Genuine concern & compassion for others. 3) Sense of humor.

For someone who faced so many obstacles to have those three qualities (among others) stand out...well, it all just speaks volumes about BF.

BGP has lost a giant, but every one of us can learn from his example & his legacy.

And because he made so many of us laugh, I wanted to include my favorite all-time Birdsfan post in this thread. This also happens to be at least one of my top 5 favorite BGP posts of all-time.

The context of this is the thread when formerkywrestler was competing in the Iron Man competition & we had a thread going that whole day. It's one of the funniest threads we've ever had on here IMO, but Birdsfan's post below is the cream of the crop:

And here he is flashing some sort of atheistic gang sign as he crosses the line.

We later found out that this wasn't actually formerkywrestler, but the post was pure comedy gold nonetheless.

Perfect post. It also brings up another one of his great qualities, acceptance. We were obviously on total opposite ends of the religious spectrum but he was still always a friend to me on here and the one time I had the fortune of meeting him in person.

I never had the privilege of meeting Birdsfan, but I know he was loved by many. Over our 10+ years together on BGP, I felt like I had known him for years. Members like Birdsfan are what makes BGP a special place. It seemed to me that he was at peace with himself in the weeks leading up to his passing. May he rest in peace.

I took a carnation from the spray that was on his coffin today and I attached it to his post in the Birdsnest.

RIP my friend. Many of us commented that we wished you could have seen the outpouring of love for you over the past month and especially these last few days.

I'm sure he saw a lot of touchdowns from that vantage point!

Like I told you earlier today, awesome, wonderful gesture! Just brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for doing that and glad you didn't get thrown in the hoosegow. :lol2:

That is a really touching gesture, 35Bird. Very nice of you to do that and then take a picture of it for us.

A wife of a frequent, valuable BGPer helped out. She had us go through proper channels, which was nice, and the staff at Highlands was very accommodating. But I was looking forward to see how far my 40 time has fallen over the last 30 years in case I had to make a break for it. It has probably dropped from molasses-like to glacial.

It was nice to meet you, RTS.

Well done 35. You are truly a great friend to Dave and I am sure that he is honored to have been remembered in this way.

Well done indeed. Things won't be the same without Dave being in his spot.

Very nice meeting you too!

I had the privilege of meeting you last night.

Had I known you were gonna run a 40 I would have brought a sundial for you.

Sundial would not cut it. They only work when the sun is out, and I would not be finished yet.
