Birdsfan, my friend...

This is very sad news. I know he had been in and out of hospitals in the recent past. Does anyone know what happened medically that led to this?

He truly made the most of the hand he was dealt with utter grace. . . Thinking of him walking through those pearly gates . .

There is a post on Hoxworth's FB page which is an example of BF's fragility, strength, and humanity. . . .

One of the wittiest cats I've ever known. I choose to think of Dave in a new body. I would love to be privy to the greeting he and Alabama Larry share.

I never had the pleasure of meeting BF, but I always enjoyed conversing on here and reading his insight on what seemed to be everything, but especially Highlands Football.

There are no words that I can say that will be able to ease any of the pain that his family, nor those of you on here who are close friends with him.

.....my absolute deepest condolences to those of you who are hurting right now.

So true and so very hard to believe.

Dave was with BGP almost from inception. I often thought how fortunate Dave was to have the social connections through BGP, but it wasn't until the past few weeks when he was absent that I realized it was really all of us who were fortunated to be blessed by Dave's friendship and connections on ths site. To say he will be missed feels so Understated and inadequate; however, there is no other way to phrase it. I will miss my friend deeply.

Really well said, OB.

Thanks for posting. For people like me who only knew him through BGP, this post and link helped a lot. Hard to believe I feel such sadness for the loss of a person I never met. I once was a regular blood donor and have donated a lot over the years, but for some reason I haven't donated in the past few years. I think it is time to start doing it again. RIP Dave.

I'm sorry for not keep you all up to speed on Dave, but I just felt like the family needed their privacy. Dave's mom called me this evening and asked if my wife and I would want to come and say goodbye to Dave. We were there for a few hours with his wonderful family and they made us feel like we were part of that family. What wonderful people they are. I'm really at a loss for words as I am losing my best friend, I just know I don't want him suffering. I'm glad I got to know Dave over the years and I had so much fun with him, his zeal for life was so infectious.

As I was typing this, I received a call from Dave's brother Mike. Our dear and wonderful friend Dave has passed away. Please keep his family in your prayers.

"If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord."

Romans 14:8

The end of this Irish Blessing days it all for me: Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand....

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

I smile thinking of Dave in the presence of Christ.

Definitely a sad day for his friends and family. Was hoping I'd never click on the forum and have to see this thread. Prayers to his family.

On a happier note it is comforting to know that he's now chatting about all of BGP with Alabama Larry.

A very sad day for Dave's family, friends and BGP. We've lost another great all too soon. May you rest in peace, Birdsfan.

Sad to here this Dave you was a really great guy and loved his Blue Birds prayers to you buddy.

Dearest Jesus, who wept at the death of your friend

and taught that they who mourn shall be comforted,

grant us the comfort of your presence in our loss.

Send Your Holy Spirit to direct us

lest we make hasty or foolish decisions.

Send Your Spirit to give us courage

lest through fear we recoil from living.

Send Your Spirit to bring us your peace

lest bitterness, false guilt, or regret take root in our hearts.

The Lord has given.

The Lord has taken away.

Blessed be the name of the Lord.

Amen.

O sweet mother Mary,

who knew the sadness of mourning those your heart loved most,

Jesus, your Son,

and Joseph, your devoted spouse,

pray for us in our time of loss.

Amen.
