Clearly, he wasn't reaching for a weapon since a weapon hasn't been mentioned in any of the articles. Not good.

I have to seriously question your logic. If a man is in your teenage daughters bedroom and the circumstances lead you to believe your daughter's life is in danger your instinct isn't to stop the threat? Keep in mind, as far as you know this guy is an intruder and reaches for a weapon.

 

We're talking about instinct, right? Not logic.

 

Like I've said, I've never been in that situation, but I don't think my instinct would be to kill immediately.

A tip for any late night boyfriends, just say yessir and I'm leaving and do just that. If he tells you to wait until police arrive, do just that. If he yells at you, remain calm and take it without arguing. Was the boy at fault? For being in the room he knew he shouldn't, sure he was. Not saying for a minute the boy deserved to be shot. On the contrary, seems with as little info as we have here, a cascade of stupidity caused a teenager to be killed tragically. It's a real shame. Also not remotely saying that the daughter doesn't have some culpibility in this either. Takes two to tango. It's easy to say what we would have done in that circumstance, and perhaps we are right, but this man (according to the first account) couldn't simply walk into the room because of his disability of unknown etiology at this point.

I hope for her sake that the daughter did not know the boy, but that seems highly unlikely

At 2am, I say he was scared someone was raping his innocent daughter (in his eyes), when all a long she was doing what a high % of teens have done. Not many teen boys who will turn down sex and Im sure both teens were scared. She lied, he was going to get his pants up, dad thought he was getting gun, dad shoots him.

I'm betting she knew him and denied it at first because of course her dad would of been pissed, now instead he may go up on murder charges.

 

Either way, the daughter unfortunately is to be blamed as much as the father and boy imo. No good will come of this no matter if there are charges or not. There is a dead boy and a girl who had as much to do with it as her father unfortunately.

This begs another question...How did the younger brother see that? I'm assuming she had the bedroom door closed.

Another thing I've thought of....Isn't it entirely possible that the dad came in guns blazing, then made up the whole story of her saying she didn't know him, and him reaching for something?

Sounds to me like he was a little angery that his daughter and this guy were doing the mattress mambo and let his anger get the best of him.

If this is what really happened, that is murder, IMO.

Very similar situation happened to me about 7 or 8 years ago.

 

I have 3 "stepdaughters", 2 of which, the two youngest oldest had started college, lived with me and their mother (long time relationship, never married, all lived with me). I hear some commotion from the oldest ones bedroom one night, she's about 13, the youngest one is about 11 at the time. I wake up their mom. Shes all grumpy but goes to the bedroom door and opens it, asks what's going on. As soon as I looked at the girls faces I knew something was up. I could also smell this sour, bo/sweat smell like someone had been out on a hot night running and just poring sweat. At the time I don't see anyone but I KNOW someone else is in the room. I scream for whoever is hiding they better come out and come out quick or I'm coming to get them. Two young boys climb out from between the bed and the wall. I am royally ticked off! I read the riot act to the boys and tell then if I ever see them again it won't be a joyful reunion and escort them out the door. The girl's mom and I then have a very stern, long talk with the girls and that they better never do anything like that again...they boys had shown up at their window knocking asking to let them in, kids the older one knew, and it frightened the younger one, which is what woke me up.

 

Now, at this time I did not have a gun in the house. If I had it would have been at my side. No confrontation ensued in my situation, which is lucky for the boys, and no "hanky panky" was going on, though who knows what those boys might have tried had I not intervened when I did. My heart was racing, I was very angry. I can understand the presence of mind this man may have been under. It's not a good place to be in I can tell you that.
