Disappointing Incident At the Ryle and CovCath Game

Featured Replies

A very disrespectful act happened at the Ryle game Saturday evening and it has upset many of the students and some adults.

Ryle had a sign up memorializing two recently deceased students. For some reason at least one CovCath student ripped the sign down.

The mother of one of the boys who died recently was very upset. I hope the principle at CovCath finds out who did this.

Absolutely unacceptable, and I'm already sorry to hear this has happened.

I'm sure that if it has been brought to his attention, Bob Rowe is doing whatever he can to identify whether or not this was done by a Cov Cath student, and if so, that student will be handled appropriately.

As I've told Cov Cath students on the occasions I have had to speak with them, they are representing so many more people than just themselves when they go out - especially to school functions or when they're wearing Cov Cath gear. They represent every single Cov Cath grad who has been a part of the Colonel family before them. They have to hold themselves to a higher standard.

If it turns out this is true, then he'll get the punishment he is due.

Apparently this incident has bonded the Ryle and Cooper students (which is hard to do). They're calling for a joint student section next week when CCH plays Cooper.

IMO, nothing good can come from schools teaming up like this. Always leads to bad decisions in the cheering sections.

As one who supports CCH I'm sure I speak for many when I say that assuming this is true (and I have no reason to think otherwise) that it's both disappointing and embarrassing. I have no doubt Bob Rowe will handle this appropriately.

I can't imagine what would be going through the mind of either the kid(s) who did it and the family of Mason.

Yes....very.

That was my first reaction when I read it as well. But let's not condemn the entire CovCath school for the stupid inconsiderate act of a couple of morons. What they should do is locate these guys and have them take the mike at center court and make a public apology for starters.

Not defending the kid (if true), but we were all their once and have done some stupid stuff. I'm sure once it becomes "real" to him, he will absolutely regret it. Kids tend to be numb to things that go on around them and are focused on themselves and "being cool". Again, not an excuse, but I do understand where the kid's head was...or wasn't!!! If handled correctly, it can be a great life lesson that the kid will take with him. I'm sure Principal Rowe handle the situation. He is an outstanding leader, IMO.

As for the family, I absolutely can't even imagine. Kids don't make adult decisions and seeing that had to cut deep for the family.

I don't have FB. So, those not on FB can't see the "pic".

Mason's mother posted a picture of it on Facebook. Their family is very upset.

This is one thing I hate about Facebook.

Kids do stupid. Kids do insensitive.

Kids need to be punished. Kids need to learn consequences. Kids need to really feel the sting of their stupidity.

And then--- kids need to be forgiven.

Facebook pictures don't allow that.

Disappointed to hear of this as it gives a black eye to a school that has students out in the community every day doing good work.

I mean he was being very disrespectful whichever way you spin it. Is there any possibility that he didn't realize who/what the sign was for?

Either way, CCH looks bad. It's unfortunate.

You are correct as I have also heard students from some other schools were also going to join the Cooper/Ryle student section to show their support.

I for some reason think the outcome will not be negative but positive in the end.

These kids all grew up together and I hope it all ends on a positive note and one the families are satisfied with. Should be an interesting game against Cooper.

I know what you are saying, but I don't believe the school looks bad for one individual. They would look bad if they did not respond appropriately.

It's difficult to tell what is going on in the picture. Was this an "action shot" of the kid ripping the poster?

No clue. Only picture I saw on twitter.

Kids do very stupid and insensitive things, regardless of what school they attend. How the school, and his parents handle it will show the true class of both. I love Clyde's response. I also do not like the idea of two schools teaming up against CCH. That sounds like trouble. It seems as though this was the action of an individual student, not a group. It should be handled as such.

If his picture is on Facebook, and I hope it is, I suspect he is having a very bad week.
