February 4, 201412 yr As I said, Bob doesn't jack around. Good for Bob for taking a strong stand. I did so many stupid things as a youth that I can't count them all but kids need to know the consequences of their actions and that some actions carry a much greater societal weight than others. Appropriately censure the kids and let them back--after all school is to educate, isn't it? Not all learning comes from books. I would learn more from this than I did from Fr. McMahon's chemistry class, that's for sure.
February 4, 201412 yr While I don't agree with him, the choir boy image that many CCH alum and fans try to portray is a bit much IMO. Next time my little brother gets a C on a test you'll be the first to know about it. That should wreck that image for you. And I'll have you know, he isn't in choir. He's in the band.
February 4, 201412 yr I will support what the principal decides in this. I am sure he has filtered through all the rumors, innuendos, might have happened, stuff. Most principals are extremely good at this with experience and will act accordingly. I wasn't there, nor were many others on here. Very unfortunate accident (why didn't they apologize to someone right then and there) or not. it's too emotional for those close to the situation in these sorts of things to react the way most think we should when removed from the emotional attachment. If you talk to enough witnesses, the truth rises to the surface every time. Kids are basically good and they do know what is right and wrong.
February 4, 201412 yr Here is my understanding of what happened. Sign was not tampered with during frosh and JV games. During the Variety starting lineup introductions. CovCath students turned around (as they always do) and chanted "who's that?" Some of the students near this poster fell forward and put their hands in front of them, tearing part of the poster. Now, this is the information I was given. It appears the boys ACCIDENTALLY tore part of the poster. JMO FWIW, I would like to add that the students could not see the sign in its entirety (so they may not have known its meaning), and since Ryle had some extremely inappropriate signs, the CovCath kids may have taken the "mysterious" (to them) poster in the wrong way. While I still maintain it was an ACCIDENT, an apology should be issued. BTW, the CovCath students signed a card today to send their condolences for the deceased young man and to let the family know they are praying for them. I've also heard they have plans to create and donate a new sign to Ryle. Also, I'm extremely confident no kids were suspended.
