While I don't agree with him, the choir boy image that many CCH alum and fans try to portray is a bit much IMO.

 

Cov Cath students are not all choir boys, no. But they are held to a higher standard by those within the Cov Cath community, and the by community at large. The fact is, though, it is a school comprised entirely of teenage boys. That alone should tell you that Cov Cath is not going to be a school made up completely of choir boys. That doesn't mean that we don't do our damnedest towards making our alumni be the best Christian men that they can be.

 

It certainly looks like, in this instance, someone has fallen particularly short of that mark.

 

Still, I think I can state pretty confidently that FanOfMany's comment about Cov Cath students "Not even [being] close" to being the best of the best makes it pretty obvious that he/she has some sort of axe to grind.

I still want to know if there was an adult present to monitor what the student section was saying and/or doing during the game. I thought that this was pretty standard policy nowadays.

Yes, they have adults present to monitor the student section. Cov Cath generally has at least the principal and the dean of discipline monitoring the student section at all games. The monitoring generally takes place from the floor in front of the student section so they can look up to better see and hear what is being said/done by the students - and in this case, it could have potentially offered a better opportunity for the incident we're all discussing, seeing as it took place at the rear of the student section.

Clearly, which is why I said I didn't agree with him, however I equally disagree with the general image that most CCH alumni try to paint of the CCH student body.

Here is my understanding of what happened. Sign was not tampered with during frosh and JV games. During the Variety starting lineup introductions. CovCath students turned around (as they always do) and chanted "who's that?" Some of the students near this poster fell forward and put their hands in front of them, tearing part of the poster.

 

Now, this is the information I was given. It appears the boys ACCIDENTALLY tore part of the poster. JMO

I have a question, maybe it's been asked, but was hanging a banner you wanted to display where the student section who would be on their feet the whole game a bright idea in the first place? I mean no disrespect either.

Not to excuse any behavior.....but now that I see the sign in question and how/where it was hung, it changes my whole outlook of the situation. I can see how a sign like that could be torn easily. Just sayin'...

You had me until you turned it around to offend the family of the kid who may or may not have intentionally torn down this sign. Kids do stupid things sometimes; especially when they are around other kids.

The account of the incident from accountant45202 is correct. This was purely an accident waiting to happen as the banner in question was mounted directly behind the CCH cheering section who- as has been mentioned- stand the entire time, squeezed into a tight place and are pretty active during the games. Jumping, turning, falling down etc. They had No Idea of the meaning or value of the banner.

If you think for a minute that this was a case of a CCH student knowingly or maliciously tearing down the poster honoring a deceased student, your off your rocker. I would say the exact same thing about the Ryle kids were the circumstances reversed. Further, as the grieving family of the child- seeing where the CCH section was and knowing that it would be at best covered up- and at worst potentially damaged, I probably would have gone and removed it myself. My heart is broken for the family, but we have to approach this with some common sense.

Re: the Ryle/Cooper cheer section "teaming up". While I think its great that students unite for a cause, I'm not sure how the present circumstances warrant this and frankly it sounds like someone trying to pick a fight. By all means unite for the cause and get together somewhere to support the parents- but this comes off as less supporting the parents as wanting a pound of flesh.

As I stated earlier. I'm sure it will all be handled long before the game on Tuesday.

If it isn't, and what I mean by that is, if there isn't an apology whether it was done on purpose or not, an explanation at least is warranted. If there isn't then the story accountant45202 gave may not have been the case.

 

The reason I say that is if it was an "accident" then surely there would be no reason for the student who did do this to not admit to it and no reason an apology wouldn't be forth coming.
