February 5, 201412 yr Come on, man. You expect a kid to rat out another kid? The adult who saw the sign being ripped should have found Bob Rowe and it would have been taken care of. Instead, they decided to put it all out on social media like a kid would do. Bingo
February 5, 201412 yr I can understand you're trying to backtrack from the comment but how many people have ever questioned good parenting? Drop it...I'm not going to hold a mindless/pointless discussion with you that is off the topic.
February 5, 201412 yr My point was, why would it be the Ryle's students responsibility? How does the honor system work at CCH? If a student sees another student doing something wrong, are they not taught to take care of it or are they encouraged to hide it? My point is, shouldn't it be one of the Cov Cath students who saw what happened to turn in the student who did it or explain to Bob etc what happened? Wouldnt that be the Christian thing to do? You are right, it is not the Ryle students responsibility. This is where we disagree... You say "doing something wrong." I firmly believe after talking to multiple students it was an accident. And okay, the kid accidentally tore it, so what will Rowe do? He can't un-tear it. From my understanding it was torn at the beginning of the game then not tampered with the rest of the evening. The whole thing is really a shame. Takes away from a competetive night of basketball.
February 5, 201412 yr So many layers here that will be sorted out. Let's say it was an accident, which I have no idea either way. What caused the accident? Was it a kid that just fell with a misstep, was it a few kids rough housing and knocked into it, was it someone taking a dare and not meaning to but took it too far, was he tripped, etc.? All of these would probably warrant a different type of consequence. Accidents can be suspendable in some instances in my mind, especially if they were rough housing and the sign was the consequence of that. A misstep, very unfortunate and not suspendable, but an truly heartfelt apology needed. These things are rarely, ever cut and dry. Again, as stated the principal will get to the bottom of it.
February 5, 201412 yr My experience as a principal in these things is that a vast majority of time when you have the goods on someone or very good evidence, they try at first to deny, you show them the evidence or share it; then they say it was an accident, then you usually can get them to admit intent. It shocked me at first that some parents and friends bought the accident story, when it rarely was. It didn't shock me over time, though, because it became predictable adolescent response and some parents reactions. Hey, it's normal kid behavior and part of maturing. I had kids tell me when they were caught smoking that it was an accident, they really weren't thinking about it and just lit up, and their parents supported them. It actually took all I had to keep from laughing at them right then and there.

Rough housing. Unfortunately when 250 teenage boys are together its unavoidable. That is why Ryle should have moved the poster and/or Student Section. With that being said, an apology should be issued. And it is.
February 5, 201412 yr From what I have gathered the mother of the deceased child was inconsolable over the sign being ripped. To assume that she would be in any shape to find Bob Rowe is naive IMO. How do we even know that she knows who Bob Rowe is? I think some people are expecting too much from a grieving parent.

With that being said, an apology should be issued. And it is. I would not doubt that at all and happens all the time in every school. However, it is still unacceptable and as students would often say, I know you play, you pay. Most of them get it. I don't have all the facts and never will and shouldn't. I trust the principal, as others say on here will handle it appropriately.

If you read the post I replied to, he said a Ryle student should of went over to the CCH student section and took care of it. My point was why should it be Ryle students responsibility. If CCH is such good students and role models etc then they should of turned in the kid who did it. Why should someone across the gym be held responsible to getting with Bob? That was my Point. We can always say days later when it is less emotional, I should have done this or that. Very understandable she did not know what to do.
February 5, 201412 yr Bingo Really???? Wow, I was all for Not throwing stones etc but reading your replies and lcats etc I can't help but speaking my mind now about the ridiculous posts of yours I just read. It's freaking ridiculous that you and cats are now turning this to put the blame on Ryle. How spineless can you be? Your almighty untouchable COV CATH students tore down a poster put up in memory of a classmate and you are actually going to turn the tables and blame Ryle students???????? You should be ashamed of yourselves. How dare you even think because of a crappy move by one of your schools students you blame Ryle for this thing. Your actions alone by protecting the guilty and persecuting the innocent is shameful. I take it from your name on here you are a CCH dad or alumni, I sure hope you don't teach your kid to do what you do and blame the innocent for your wrongdoing when you get caught doing something tasteless and wrong.

Your actions alone by protecting the guilty and persecuting the innocent is shameful. What if this was a different school than CCH?
February 5, 201412 yr What if this was a different school than CCH? It wouldn't matter one bit to me. I could care less if it was Cooper student who tore it down I'd say the same thing if a cooper parent tried to blame the victims instead of the guilty like Bluedad and others are doing. Its shameful and embarrasing. Ive kept it very civil on this topic since it started and even offered up hope it would all be taken care of long before next weeks game etc. and never pointed fingers and admitted we don't know the facts because we weren't there. But when people like bluedad sit here and try and turn the tables and blame the Ryle students for this thing then I have to speak up and say something.
February 5, 201412 yr I think we need a BGP group hug. Im up for a hug. I also think parents should start teaching their kids that they should be held accountable for their actions instead of teaching them to point blame elsewhere. Also I wanted you to know I have no problem with CCH at all, so your question to me sounded like you thought I had an issue with CCH, I don't. I grew up in Ft Mitchell, CCH and Beechwood was in my blood. The issue I had was some thinking their kids can do no wrong when we know all teenagers aren't angels, they are teenagers.
