February 5, 201412 yr I'll have to agree to disagree with you there. Yes, or no....Are CovCath students, in your mind, held to a higher standard than NewCath students? Or Cov Latin students? Or how about Brossart sutdents? From your posts, it seems clear you do.

From your posts, it seems clear you do. No, they are not. I think in Catholic schools, we are held to the Christian standard. That doesn't by any means make you better than someone, but like it or not, it is a higher standard than the standard being taught in public schools. For a simple example, public schools can't teach the ten commandments. They can certainly cover a few of them via laws, but not all of them.

I'm sure you can understand how your previous posts could come across as such though. Unfortunately, from my experiences with numerous alumni from CCH, you seem to be in the minority.
February 5, 201412 yr Here is my 2 cents worth. This needs to end. A mistake was made by a young man. I am willing to bet he is very sorry and would undo his actions if he could. Let's hope he has learned from it. The longer this goes on the longer the family of the departed have to read and hear about this. They have suffered enough with the lose of a child. What I think should be done. The student or students involved should make a new, bigger and better sign and hang it at Ryle. The Ryle students should go to the Cooper vs. Cov Cath game if they want. And before the game join hands in a moment of silence for the departed and their family...... We were all young and we all made mistakes..... For the family's sake let's move on, PLEASE
February 5, 201412 yr What am I supposed to get out of a poster who asks "I thought CCH students were supposed to be the best of the best"? Don't know whether this guy supports CCH or not. I took it ( and I think most people here with any English comprehension at all took it) as sarcasm. Something you like to fall back on when the coals get hot. You also didn't know if I supported CCH or not either yet you assumed I didn't which was wrong. Funny how that worked out for you isn't it? Yet you said I was the one and only who said such things about CCH. I never have had any issue with anything CCH.
February 5, 201412 yr All I'm saying in this is I'm not ready to condemn a child for life for what may or may not have been accident. The tone of this whole thread to me seems that he is a terrible person who should pay dearly. Cut the kid some slack and trust that this issue has been taken care of and will be made right with the people affected in the Ryle community. Let's let this thread rest. I'm a Cake Eater for goodness sake; I'm tired of saying nice things about these guys... I must have missed something. I have not read any post that wants to condemn any student. Not one post asking for vengeance against the young man What I have read is people hoping an apology is issued and that whoever is in the position to do so make sure not only the person who is responsible is identified and allows his story to be said and the appropriate actions be done intead of pointing blame elsewhere

For a simple example, public schools can't teach the ten commandments. They can certainly cover a few of them via laws, but not all of them. For those of us that choose to not rely on the school system for upholding and teaching high standards, we still get the same standards and ten commandments messages from our pastors, grandmothers, and parents. So now is it, if you don't attend a Catholic School, you're not held to a Christian standard? To each his own, but Catholic schools standards are no higher than a public school kid with a strong community around him/her. Just a bit more expensive. When either graduate, they both have the same opportunities and chances available to them.

It's the same way in my household and in the household I grew up in. My point is that those standards are also taught in Catholic schools...keyword "also". My point is that kids who attend Catholic (and Christian, to the best of my knowledge) private schools, are being held to Christian standards IN SCHOOL. They are being taught Christian and Catholic principals that literally cannot be taught - by law - in public schools.

Christian values may not be allowed to be taught in public schools by law, but that doesn't mean the difference between right and wrong can't be taught in public schools or the meaning of being held accountable. Which isn't that much different. I know because I attended both type of schools my entire life.

I wish the same classes could be offered also in the public schools at least as an elective opportunity. But that's another whole post topic.

February 5, 201412 yr .....nevermind. :banghead: ??? Did I misunderstand what you were saying? My point was wether you attend a Catholic or Public school, you are basically taught the same principles. Are you saying that isn't true?
February 5, 201412 yr That's fantastic that those standards are being applied by pastors, grandmothers and parents. I think what bothers people about this is the implication that public schools are substandard and don't teach values and principals, (or teach them as well as private religious schools) and therefore are inferior. So even while you don't necessarily feel that way, that's how it sounds to many. My kids attend public school (as did I), and I feel they are held to a pretty high standard as well. Sure it may be rooted a little differently, and have a little bit of a different message, but it's still a high standard. Is Cov Cath's high standard better than a public (non-private) school's standard?? Not necessarily. I think if the statement had simply been "held to a high standard" rather than "higher", none of this discussion takes place. As a parent, you have to choose what is best for your child. Just because it's the best choice for you and your family, doesn't make it a better choice than someone else's (and vice versa).
