Let'em play. KHSAA has let the rest of the transfers in the 14th play, no reason not to let these two kids play.

Didn't North and or South Laurel have some kids come over form Australia several years ago (one was a D-1 player I think)...they were able to play, what is the difference?

What do you mean by "I don't agree this is a factor?" And how is "this" relevant to "Holmes" kids? I gave examples of 5 different things to look at... which one are you referring to?

But those are supportable statements. This isn't just a sports forum. Nobody ever starts threads about the schools that claim to have the best test scores in the state or in their district. Nobody ever starts threads discussing who has the best composite ACT scores. Nobody ever starts threads discussing who had the highest graduation rates in their class from freshman-seniors. I guarantee that schools benefitted from transfers in these situations but nobody ever discusses that. It's only in athletics when it becomes an issue but that is why I feel that all schools in the state benefit from transfers somehow, someway and somewhat.

The statement that originally started this woeful exchange was your assertion that "not one" person -- your words -- at other schools would be upset by the types of transfers occurring at Cordia if those other schools were receiving those transfers. I stated then, and I will restate now, that you cannot support that type of statement unless you know what everyone at NCC, Holmes, and countless other schools think about the situation. I also pointed out that not everyone on BGP will necessarily weigh in on this topic because relevant players and their families could easily see the posts and take them personally. Likewise, your current assertion that "all schools in the state benefit form transfers somehow" is unsupportable unless you quite literally know what's going on at every school in the state. For the record, I'm still not saying your ideas are wrong; I am simply saying you are making statements that are too broad and too absolute to prove, and that some mindful rewording could promote a way better discussion than the one we're having now.

Forgive me. I stay on BGP a ton and that is everybody to me. Allow me to qualify my posts by substituting that "no one on BGP who regularly makes posts and starts threads cares" in place of "nobody".

 

I do agree that I am speculating that there is at least one out of district student at each school that is improving academic achievements.

I think you mean thank them for helping Cordia.

If the bylaw was simply changed to allow one move once the clock started ticking when in HS, then this issue would be less offensive. If a student/athlete leaves after that, then the second move should be highly scrutinized to fall within the current bylaws and without a shadow of a doubt meet one of the exceptions to bylaw 6. But that's just my opinion, and won't ever be realized in my lifetime I doubt. Let me beat my drum one more time, we are headed toward club basketball and the days of HS bball are headed for a change. Club sports will become the feeder for college programs.

It is recruiting if kids are asked to come to a school to play sports whether they recieve anything else or not. It's still recruiting. Are you trying to say a DIII college that wants a player to play basketball for them even though they can't give any athletic scholarships isn't still recruiting?

 

So in all of your Scenerios, if they were asked to come there to play basketball then yes it is recruiting. Why act like it isn't?

 

To say the only reason those kids from NY and Canada and wherever else came to Cordia out of all the schools in the state, was simply because of the academics then I'd laugh in your face. Don't be stupid and don't act like we're stupid for knowing the truth. Why Cordia? Why would a kid from Canada pick Cordia out of every school in the entire country? Cordia is not one of the top academic schools in the state the last I checked. So don't play dumb because we aren't dumb.

 

 

I am not sure if any of you had college dreams or even plans and knew you need a scholarship to get there what's the REAL problem. So if I transfer I have to be a nerd. You are talking about these transfers like the are the tops in the Nation players. They are good but non are highly recruited players. To my understanding most are academically achieving at a average or better levels. Because someone heard of Rhodes as the coach in a area where there is nothing to do but school work and basketball knocking out two birds the child will be able to focus on getting better and improve or increase his/ her GPA. And not to mention play for a coach that played at the highest levels. As a parent that is not recruiting that is me making a decision to put my child in a situation I feel will meet his overall needs for college prep. Is that recruiting no is a parent attempting to put there child in a better or good situation to help him/her obtain there life goals.

 

This is different from some of these other situations where you are bring in the top players in the state. And the reasons these boys are not eligible is crazy!!!!!! because they move with there fathers........SIMPLY SAD or because of there size and the possible potential to play????? We as adults need to stop the politics of sports. With the rising cost of college all states should go to open enrollments for all school in the lower 10% of the states average enrollment; and help all the small programs everywhere that has been taking centuries of beating become competitive and make the these coaches go back to coaching sports. TO MUCH DANG POLITICS IN HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS!!

IMO the transfer rules are generally uninforceable. If the KHSAA is trying to determine if a move was "athletically" motivated, then in many, if not most, cases we are asking them to be read minds unless you want them ruling that any transfer to a strong program is ineligible just because it appears like it might be athletically motivated.

You are correct. Assumption is ineligibility and the burden of proof is on the student.

This also does nothing to help Rhodes' or Cordia's case and puts them under a LOT of scrutiny...and I think rightly so. And if that's what they (Rhodes and or the school) wants to do, then fine, do it, I have no problems with it. Heck I'd be the first in line to go watch them play if playing Findley Prep, Oak Hill, etc. But if this is the goal, THEN YOU CAN'T PLAY IN THE KHSAA, because you aren't following the rules set forth as such when it comes to the eligibility of the players for the basketball team.

 

Now, as to the specifics of the two kids mentioned in this article...that I don't know. If parent(s) have legitimately moved and they are now living in the area and have truly established residency...then I'm not sure how you find them ineligible, UNLESS they ended up at Cordia under circumstances/reasons that the KHSAA warrants the kids be ineligible according to the rules. Meaning there may be some things going on that we don't know about...but can probably take a good educated guess. I think the big problem some of these kids are going to face is that they ALL are going to be looked at as getting to Cordia under suspicious reasons, regardless if they did or not. This unfortunately means that some wheat will get thrown out with the chaff. And that's unfortunate for kids who may have transferred within the rules.
