But why all of this against Cordia and these students and not against the 100's of other athletes that have transferred in KY. I'll stipulate that they came to play basketball, but kids change school in KY every year to play ball at a school they think would be more beneficial to them. Where is the outrage against the kids and schools that Joker mentioned...it seems to me that the problem everybody has is that it's "Cordia" and who the heck is Cordia to think they can do this. Even though this type of transfer happens at every "Powerhouse" program, public and private in the state every year in all sports.

Plenty of other schools in the state have two transfers starting and a "pattern of transfers", as you so eloquently put, coming in. What's the difference with Cordia?

 

Scott County has Ware, Gilbert and Long. Newport Central Catholic has the Moeves kids. Perry Central has Tobler and Toomer. Shall I keep going with examples of top teams in Kentucky that have two or more transfers playing key roles or would you rather me just leave you to single out Cordia? At least you're giving Lafayette a break by not spouting off nonsense about them, so if you want to go on, go ahead, but just like your bashing of a coach's decision not to play a kid back then, the stuff on Cordia and no one else is just a tired act.

For me, the real issue at play is the arbitrary and inconsistent rulings handed out by the KHSAA.

 

I also personally don't see the difference between a kid who "switches" school systems to go to a school with a better basketball program (prior to playing HS ball), versus a kid who "transfers" to a school with a better basketball system, who has played HS ball. I realize that the "transfer" scenario does matter right now because there is a rule in place for that scenario today. But, for me, switching schools to get a better opportunity to have your talents blossom on the court is a good thing.

 

I believe that schools should not be allowed to recruit, but how is recruiting defined? Is it recruiting if a HS coach has open gyms during the summer in which players from other schools can attend? And what about a player, who might play AAU with a player from another school, asking his friend to transfer schools?

To the bolded, I think lots of people who are seen as defending Cordia on here likely just think it's somewhat unfair that there is an appearance that the rules are not applied consistently across schools.

How would we even be able to access that list? And remember, they had dorms at Cordia before Rhodes got there. I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't quite a few who fit your requirements.

 

I also don't don't think anyone is 'upset' they can't play ball other than them. People such as myself are defending them and saying 'let them play' but it seems to me like more people are upset about Cordia in general than people upset that the boys can't play.

 

I think you are right no one care that these kids can't play basketball..... but no one would have a problem with them being in the Choir.....extra curricula activities are a part of school and if they have the GPA let them play. Extra curriculum activities can help kids pay for college..... and that's the problem..... AGAIN I THINK ALL STATES SHOULD INITATE A AUTOMATIC TRANSFER RULE FOR THE LOWER 10% OF SCHOOL WHO ENROLLMENT IS LESS THAN 10% OF STATE AVERAGE. It's obvious that many have a problem with Cordia being competitive. And that's funny.

I'd also be interested in how Cordia allows more credits to be given to help kids to graduate on time. Also does anyone know where Cordia ranks state wide in academics? I mean if people are going to Cordia from all around the world for their academics, I'd love to see how far ahead of all the other schools in the state they actually are. I mean they'd have to be one of the best academically right? Last I saw, Beechwood was the only school in the state to win the National Blue Ribbon this year.

Cordia ranked 213th in the state. Not a resounding advertisement of academic excellence.

 

I personally don't think it's fair for the boys not to play only because I'm sure they were told they could play if they went there...although in the article they say it was never brought up, if you believe that I've got some lad to sell you, so it is the school that I am upset with. Everyone knows what they and Rhodes is trying to do there which is a slap in the face of KHSAA so I have no problem with the boys being ineligible, but I also feel for them because I'm sure they didn't know when they decided to move.

 

I don't think that all of the transfers have academic issues and more importantly many schools do not help to ensure the student athletes are on a NCAA path and that's more of the issue I think.

One things for sure, Cordia has certainly put themselves on the map over the last few years. I'd safely say that 80 percent of the state that follows sports couldn't have told you what part of the state, or what region Cordia was located in before Rhodes arrived.

 

I'd be in the 80%, hell, that was the 1st time I had heard off them.

Why do I care? Because for some reason I tend to like level playing fields or at least as fair as possible. It may not bother you and that is fine, but it bothers me and we both have our opinions.
