Is it recruiting when parents decide to send their kids to a school with a power house athletics even though it is in another district, city or state? Is it recruiting when players from surrounding counties and even across state lines decide to go to a school with a strong football program because they have a great "Tradition"?

 

I guess it is only recruiting if kids from the wrong side of the tracks have an opportunity to get out of a bad situation to improve their academic and athletic situation.

It is recruiting if kids are asked to come to a school to play sports whether they recieve anything else or not. It's still recruiting. Are you trying to say a DIII college that wants a player to play basketball for them even though they can't give any athletic scholarships isn't still recruiting?

 

So in all of your Scenerios, if they were asked to come there to play basketball then yes it is recruiting. Why act like it isn't?

 

To say the only reason those kids from NY and Canada and wherever else came to Cordia out of all the schools in the state, was simply because of the academics then I'd laugh in your face. Don't be stupid and don't act like we're stupid for knowing the truth. Why Cordia? Why would a kid from Canada pick Cordia out of every school in the entire country? Cordia is not one of the top academic schools in the state the last I checked. So don't play dumb because we aren't dumb.

While I appreciate the passion everyone brings to this debate, I think we should be careful about telling other people what they are thinking. Unless you have spoken to all parties involved at NCC and Holmes -- players, parents, and staff -- then you are not in a position to state that "everyone" is okay or not okay with those schools' recent transfers. Believe it or not, not everyone comes to BGP to express their opinions. Plus, I imagine some people who might argue against certain players' eligibility would choose to stay quiet, because they do not want to be (mis)perceived as posting negative comments about the players or families themselves.

 

As a professional educator and a sports fan, I would also humbly suggest that valuing academics over athletics is not a sentiment that deserves to be in the same sentence as the term "crap."

Now what I do have a problem with is schools like this competing for state titles against other schools that don't recruit. If you want to recruit, fine, then play a national schedule against the Oak Hills etc

But you have absolutely zero proof than any school is doing any recruiting. If you do then report it to KHSAA. It's as simple as BGP rule #4:

point is, just because it goes on doesn't make it right.

i also am coming from an are where I am in the minority because is I am in one of the very few Closed school districts in the state where it is even more secluded in terms of who can go where etc.

 

As I said earlier, it is what it iis and what gets me is when people still try and say that a duck isn't a duck.

Last I saw Rodrick Rhodes is allowed to have his dream of being an Oak Hill type powerhouse and maybe one day he will accomplish that. It's funny that the KHSAA is ruling some kids eligible..meaning they did what they were legally supposed to do...and ruling other kids ineligible....meaning they haven't done what they are legally supposed to do...and people are still mad. :lol:

 

The KHSAA can never win. They are just like referees. Everyone criticizes them and their actions but nobody wants to go work there and see what they have to deal with on a daily basis.

I'm not sure why Ben Weyer's name was brought into this. This story is about kids that have played varsity and then change high school and the KHSAA's inconsistency.

 

Ben and his family , like all of us, made a decision as to what's best overall for our children. Not applicable here.
