What's really amusing is that some of the very 14th region schools that are up in arms against the eligibility of these Cordia kids are the same ones that have done the same thing for years, bring players into their school from other places. The only difference is that their kids were "transferred" from neighboring schools or counties while Cordia's are from out-of-state.

Interesting. My school has a credit recovery program. I would guess that many schools do. I think that there might be another reason why Cordia was chosen.

Cordia was founded in 1933 by Alice H. Slone as a settlement school in a remote part of Knott County. With an enrollment of 325 students, Cordia is a public school but receives some financial support from a private foundation run by Whitaker, Slone's niece, who is director of the school now.

 

Public school with some private funding? Tuition assistance is fine. Basketball scholarships are not. One parent did move, so not sure why the inconsistent KHSAA did not approve. I'd just rather not see blatant lies saying they came for the education and better life, when in fact they came to help turn a small mountain school into a basketball dynasty. Aren't they getting what they came for? Call a spade a spade. They should have just transferred to one or those post grad academies if hoops is part of their plan for the future. Or could they not afford to go that route?

 

Tuition assistance? Basketball Scholarships? Since when do you have to pay tuition to go to a public school if you live in that district?

I still stand by what I have always said about Cordia. If they weren't a threat to defeat people then people wouldn't care at all.

I don't think Ron Dawn ever said anything like this.

 

In all honesty I really don't care one way or the other if they are eligible or not. I just love the lively debate, kind of like RCC9 and the All "A" scuttlebutt.

 

The reason I go along with Mustang, is that it seems awfully fishy, you know it and I know it.

 

Truthfully speaking, I really feel bad for these kids having to go through all of this.

No! We are saying the whole Cordia situation stinks. You know it, I know it, and everyone on here knows it. Even the special interest folks who are defending it know it.

 

Kids from Canada and New York coming together at a private school anywhere in the state for the purpose of athletic advantage are not part of Kentucky basketball "as it was meant to be" and is what we count on the KHSAA to stand up and prevent. We have only local judges and the courts sytem to thank for this whole can of worms. Where is the legitimacy?????

 

Permitting wholesale transferring will lead to open season on total, across the board, open enrollment which includes international and out-of-state students. If this is the case and what it is going to take to compete on a somewhat level playing field in the future, maybe we should have spent our $7.5m on building dormitories instead of a chapel.

I think the dad just proved it by suing the KHSAA after he said basketball was never in the discussion when transferring.

I will give you my honest opinion to that direct question over a beer one day.

I think to Mustangs post, the KHSAA does a poor job of policing transfers and their inconstancy is of grave concern for sports in Kentucky.
