Let's say you took a new job because you got a 20% pay increase. Boss says you can't take any vacation even though every other employee can. You didn't come to the job for the vacation but I would expect you would want to take one like everyone else, correct?

Don't get me wrong, I think the KHSAA is very inconsistent. But I Don't think kids should be transferring into schools for sports. That is called recruiting.

I'd ask the question ahead of time and if it was in doubt that I would get my vacation pay, I'd have to take that into consideration before taking that chance on a new job.

Why would you ask when the company rules say you would get the vacation if you met certain requirements?

I'm sure that Rhodes is more concerned with their PPG than he is their ACT. Transferring and skirting KHSAA reguations is obviously accepted practice in the 14th Region. While they may be moving to a "safer" environment, they are also moving for athletic advantage.

 

As TAC said, if they are pure of heart and coming to escape a bad situation and a better learning environment, why has basketball now become a priority to the point that they are sueing the KHSAA.

Until the KHSAA proves they are recruiting they have to follow their own rules. They're saying " we once heard Rhodes likes ducks so...."

I found the comment that the whole Knott County community was outraged by the ruling funny. Should have said Cordia community, from some of the reading I've done there is no love lost between these two and the rest of the 14th.

Would this even be an issue if this was a private school in Lexington, Louisville or NKY that had players from several states, cities and counties playing for them. But since it's a Public School in the Mountains of Eastern Ky it's all wrong?

Cordia was founded in 1933 by Alice H. Slone as a settlement school in a remote part of Knott County. With an enrollment of 325 students, Cordia is a public school but receives some financial support from a private foundation run by Whitaker, Slone's niece, who is director of the school now.

 

Public school with some private funding? Tuition assistance is fine. Basketball scholarships are not. One parent did move, so not sure why the inconsistent KHSAA did not approve. I'd just rather not see blatant lies saying they came for the education and better life, when in fact they came to help turn a small mountain school into a basketball dynasty. Aren't they getting what they came for? Call a spade a spade. They should have just transferred to one or those post grad academies if hoops is part of their plan for the future. Or could they not afford to go that route?

Because rules are meant to be broken??? While interviewing, if the interviewer told me I'd quality for vacation if I passed certain requirements, I would want to make sure I qualified. I'm also assuming you have never negotiated for extra vacation time when applying for a job?

What's really amusing is that some of the very 14th region schools that are up in arms against the eligibility of these Cordia kids are the same ones that have done the same thing for years, bring players into their school from other places. The only difference is that their kids were "transferred" from neighboring schools or counties while Cordia's are from out-of-state.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. I find it sad any adult would want a kid to sit and not be able to play sports. Such a big part of a young persons development. Adults need to quit worrying so much about where other people want to send their child.
