December 15, 201312 yr I think they said Randle is the only player in the nation averaging 17pts and 12 rebounds. Not sure what else you could expect. Clearly he didn't play his best today but for the season is doing very good. The cats are just young and immature. The Christmas break will help big time, imo. What I expected was less turnovers from him in our big games (he had 7 against Michigan State) and more intensity on the defensive end. You have to agree teams are just sitting on his spin move and he's giving it up way too much. It isn't that these are just turnovers, it's that they are turnovers that lead to fast break dunks on the other end. I expected him not to get abused on the boards like he did against Baylor. Hearing people talk about him in the preseason, I didn't expect him to defend a pick-and-roll like someone whose playing organized ball for the first time. It's more than scoring some putbacks late, dunking some lobs, and pumping up your stats against lesser teams who can't physically match you. I expect him to play hard and keep his head up when things don't go his way offensively instead of having awful body language (if we didn't have the Harrison twins taking the heat off him in that regard, more would probably agree). I've seen the Michigan State, Providence, Baylor, and North Carolina games because that's all I've been able to watch here (besides the Boise State game, which was the night before a huge 8 am final I had the next morning), and he hasn't been a #1 pick in the draft type player he was hyped to be. That's just me though.
December 15, 201312 yr Coaches do not "get" their kids to stay more than a year, they stay because they aren't going to be drafted high enough. Well, except Travis Ford. I really think he knows where Marcus Smart hid a body or something because I don't know why in the world that kid stayed this year. :lol2:
December 15, 201312 yr It would be nice if we could celebrate a weekend victory. This team is better than the '12 version but at times they are a tough watch. For the life of me I can't understand why quality shooters can't nail free throws.
December 15, 201312 yr I know it's hard, it's not a cake walk but to win national titles your gonna have to have more then just freshmen. Yes they are good but do they have enough to win a national title by themselves? I don't think so but it's JMO Poythress and Cauley Stein. Could include Polson. The 11 team had Jones, lamb, and miller. Miller is the only difference in experience, the 11 team was not overloaded with experience.
December 15, 201312 yr Slow..not tough..no killer instinct. Agreed. They're crappy dealing with adversity. Mentally very weak.
December 15, 201312 yr ASB I understand what you are saying. I have been looking for an interview with Arsenal Tech's player, Trey Lyles. I saw the interview live on air on channel 6 in Paducah as they were covering the Marshall County Hoop Fest. I would love to share it because it might share some light on what has happened to recruiting these athletes. During the interview, Trey mentioned Cal and looking forward to playing for him because of his connections to the NBA. I completely understand this young man's dream is to get into the NBA. But I really would have liked to hear him say something about playing at the University of Kentucky. He never mentioned UK. Mentioned Coach Cal, mentioned high draft picks and the NBA. If he did; I may have missed it. I personally am ready for these athletes to go directly to the NBA, the D league, or whatever. Then we can return to college basketball. I would like to see players who want to play at UK because its UK. Sadly those days might be over as well. The one and done rule is bad for NCAA. IMO
December 15, 201312 yr Disappointed in you. I still believe they will be fine come January. Have patience. I will never give up on them. Then you'll just have to be disappointed in me. "I have had it with this team" doesn't mean I've given up. I'm expressing both frustration & disappointment with this team. I still plan to watch them & root for them, but they aren't the priority they were for me when the season started. Did anybody honestly expect this team to have three losses a week-and-a-half before Christmas?
December 15, 201312 yr Not happy with Tubby Not happy with Billy Not happy with Cal Some people are never happy. Ten loss Tubby while being a good man I believe was not the right fit for UK. As far as x and out basketball he may be the best in the country IMO. Poor recruiter and even worse as a motivated. Saul was a huge mistake he was never forgiven for by many UK fans. After over a decade of watching Tubby slowly suck the life out of our beloved basketball BILLY Clyde came and sealed the deal. Drunk, horrible recruiter, and even worse floor coach. I don't know who hired that fool, but Louisville fans should pay whoever big money. The last being Cal. We are much better off now than we have been since Slick Rick left for greener pastures (or so he thought). Every year UK is back in the conversation for a national title. Superstar players come every season. The problem is that we fans set the bar so high its impossible to stay there. For most UK fans the sweet 16 should Bea given every year. Nothing but an average accomplishment. The elite eight is considered a successful season but nothing spectacular. Final fours are good years. Bragging rights begin here, and fans expect a trip the at least every 4 years. Championship game appearances are the big time. This is where fans are jumping up and down about the great year we have had. National titles are the pinnacle. Although every season starts as a title run, this accomplishment is reserved for special groups. In most UK fans minds a title every 6 years would keep them satisfied.
December 15, 201312 yr Then you'll just have to be disappointed in me. I don't think even Cal thought this team would have 3 losses before Christmas. Once the season started though, I think it's safe to say that Cal is happy this team only has 3 losses. Baffles me how much talent this team has and how poorly they're using it on the floor. They are not meshing well at all.
December 15, 201312 yr This one went just about like I had expected. I believe that I had picked UNC by 6. As of right now, if UNC is #18 then U.K. is not a top 20 team. (and btw, before today I thought that UNC was way better than #18) Anyway, there is no doubt that the Cats should have won. UNC is a tough place to play and this kind of scenario, crowd these guys had better get used to bc it's going to be that way every game on the road from here on out, I'll promise that. U.K. gets eveyones best shot, they had better learn that as well. This game reminded me of the MSU game in that the Cats could have, probably should have won. Turnovers, way too many and most were the kind caused by terrible passing, terrible FT shooting again. To me anyway, both of those are from lack of concentration, focus. Andrew H. looked good again as imo did Young. Randle is steady, one cannot expect him to carry the entire load every night. No one should be expected to do that. They all should be expected to get themselves focused on what they need to do. Finals this week, only 2 games in the next two weeks and with school on Christmas break then practice time will not be as limited. If people remember, this span of time, the next two weeks, were when the NC Championship team, the Elite 8's and Final Four teams came together, jelled and came back in January, the SEC season and played "Kentucky Basketball". So being honest, should they come out in January making the same mistakes over and over then I will be worried. Not now, I still believe that this team will come together and as Cal says "play for each other" and by March be an excellent basketball team. I do not believe that as I have heard some say, will be another last season. Even with all the mistakes (that imo will get corrected) imo this team has a far better attitude than the "Uncoachable's".
December 15, 201312 yr "Just wait til tournament time" I certainly hope so, there is a long way to go. Right now, the Cats have Finals week plus getting ready for Belmont, a team that beat UNC in Chapel Hill this season.
