January 2, 201412 yr 2. SEC is the best conference top to bottom and it isn't even close. 3. Anyone who says otherwise ignores tangible evidence or is lying . And once again, nobody has said that the SEC isn't the best conference...
January 2, 201412 yr And once again, nobody has said that the SEC isn't the best conference... So what is the point in this topic? SEC is still the best and no one is close. But hey by my eyeball test it might be a little worse than last year. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Is that everyone's point? Seems like a waste of 9 pages.
January 2, 201412 yr One thing I haven't seen GT answer that I've noticed a few people post. Gt and a few other say one team carriers the SEC. But yet in the BCS era I believe one postered listed 5 SEC teams with titles in the era. I'm confused on why he ignores that statement when he was making those statements earlier in the thread.
January 2, 201412 yr I think the SEC is #1 topic keeps coming up for several reason. First like the non UK fans point out, many UK fans like myself often wonder (or hope may be more honest) if UK was in a different conference, maybe UK's record wouldn't be so covered in blood each year but the SEC is so strong top to bottom that an average (if that?) team like UK generally puts on the field will just always look like a pee wee league team. But I think it is more than this. I think another and probably stronger aspect is how fans of SEC teams are also fans of the SEC as a whole. I see this with some of the OSU fans I know. They hate Michigan but will always cheer for a Big 10/11/12/13 whatever team over a out of conference team. Similar with the Big 12 but probably more so with the Southwest Conference when all but one team was in the state of Texas. This fan of the conference aspect seems to be the strongest with SEC teams. While fans may never cheer for their rival (UK vs. UT, Bama vs Auburn, etc.) but will certainly cheer for the rest of the conference. I am not sure why this conference pride (whatever you want to call it) is so much stronger in the SEC but it just seems to be and is certainly not limited to UK. Even though Bama has been the big dog of the SEC lately, I still think their fan base is still very proud to be associated with the SEC and aside from Auburn will cheer for the other SEC schools. I post on another forum who's membership leans Southern so on the college sports category, SEC teams are well represented. Several of the Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, S. Carolina, etc. members showed favor to UK leading up to the UK vs. UofL game. To the best of my knowledge, none had any ties to the State or the University of KY other than conference membership but that conference membership was enough for them to pull for UK against a non SEC school. Someone asked why isn't this shown in basketball. The SEC is a football conference obviously. Next I am guessing is baseball. After that, all the other sports are get some attention, just not much, that includes basketball outside of UK, and maybe Vandy, a few decades ago Arkansas and to a lesser degree Florida.

Who said one team carries the sEC? Bama has been on one of those runs recently, but they aren't alone. All I have consistently said is UK stinks and their football fans cling to the SEC mantra for dear life...

All I have consistently said is UK stinks and their football fans cling to the SEC mantra for dear life... I don't believe you ever had but a few on here have said the SEC hangs its hat on Bama and they are the only team holding the SEC up as the top conference. I think you would agree that it is great to have a Bama in your conference, the next 5-7 teams represent the SEC well. Then you have UK. Not much can be said other than all conferences need a bottom dweller and UK holds that spot at the moment. Hopefully Stoops can get UK to the point where SEC teams do not look at a game against UK as about the equivalent of a bye week.
January 3, 201412 yr Have you seen the new commercials running for ESPN about the SEC network? They are taking soundbites of people cheering "SEC". You've listened to national radio broadcasts. Say "the SEC is not strong" and see how many phone calls you take from powerful SEC teams that have a lot to cheer for. After watching the Sugar Bowl promos on ESPN I had to log on and ask if Saban is a UK fan. He talked up the SEC as the top conference ipso facto he's a UK fan.

January 3, 201412 yr How many top 20 players from Ohio did Cincy get for next year ? 0 in 2013 and 2014.
January 3, 201412 yr 0 in 2013 and 2014. They don't have anyone on staff that has direct ties to recruiting in Ohio, so not really a surprise...
January 3, 201412 yr Got some high-grade SEC defense on display right now by the team most thought couldn't lose this year.
January 3, 201412 yr Got some high-grade SEC defense on display right now by the team most thought couldn't lose this year. SEC defenses have sucked this year, thought that was already out there..
January 3, 201412 yr SEC defenses have sucked this year, thought that was already out there.. It may not have been on here, but I've seen it argued that it's because the SEC offenses stepped up. Some people (again, not necessarily on here) act like the SEC is basically professional football and that you can't apply the results there to when they play teams outside. It's why I think Auburn's going to struggle with FSU. They'll score, but can their D do enough?
