I think it would be pretty interesting if Quick was a senior this year. As I said Lon ago I think Fant is the better of the two. Fant is incredible and I think the best wr this state has seen in quite some time. He just knows how to create space and catches anything in the area. Even against faster DB's he's always come out on top.

 

Hellbird, The knock on Fant has always been his 40 speed which is above 4.4. He attended Ohio State Camps and some other schools camps too (UK, UofL, etc) and those guys didn't offer him a scholarship IMO because the other guys they were looking at there were faster. Speed is important but not everything in catching the ball. In saying that, I only saw the McCallie DB run him down from behind in a game and I watched alot of his games. He has made some big time catches in game situations that allowed BG to maintain their win streak. Best catch he had IMO was last year with the game on the line against St X - ball was thrown to him in the end zone 3 X players on him and he just goes up and catches it. Best WR BG has ever had.

Purple88, if there is one position on a football field that Hellbird is intimately familiar with, it is wide receiver. You don't need to educate him on what makes a great WR...plus, heck, he is the biggest fan of Fant outside of Warren County.

Houliston and Kuntz have had a way better year than Barker. Like I said before it is more about what you have done in the past along with your senior year. Barker and Fant are better known across the state and they both will be playing at DI schools next year. If I had to pick Fant would be my choice. Barker just didn't have that great of a senior year in my opinion. Houliston's numbers would be absolutely sick if he played more than just 2 quarters a game. Before this year nobody knew who Houliston was because he had to wait until his senior year to get on the field at Highlands.

I loved watching Fant last year at the finals and this year on video. I watched the entire game that was posted on here before the playoffs when he had game winning catch against the TN team. I know all about WR's and speed etc lol.

 

I know that speed isn't the most important thing. My son is a WR and not one of the fastest by any means in the NKY area or even on his own team but he has what I stubbornly admit is the best hands in the area and that means a lot more than speed. Coming into his senior year this yr he had only dropped 1 pass thrown to him since he was a sophomore. This year through most of the regular season he had led the state most of the year in receptions but only had 3 drops the entire season (passes that he actually got a hand on and in bounds) and his first drop wasn't until week 8 of the season when he already had 50+ receptions He just like Fant isn't the fastest but he has a knack for getting seperation and when he doesn't can go up over double and triple Coverage at times and come down with the ball.

 

That is what I always loved about Fant, just put the ball in the area and chances are he is going to come down with it more times than not.

 

I love watching good recievers work and have learned to respect what they do for their teams.

 

My son isn't going D1 and mostly due to his speed or lack of it, but that doesn't mean he couldn't play at that level. Sometimes the emphasis is too much on speed IMO. I'd rather have a wr you can count on catching the ball in crunch time than one who will blow by the db and end up dropping the ball

 

Plus the most important tthing that mmy 2 favorrite WR'ss have, they both wear #12

All I know is Kuntz had an outstanding career and even though I've kind of given uk#1fan a hard time on here lately trying to get him to answer a question, he deffinatly deserves to be in the conversation.

 

Ultimately though I think it comes down to Barker and Fant still.

 

I've learned as well as everyone else has, that this award is more of a popularity contest than anything else.

 

Quick last year didn't put up great stats but still won the award, not saying it wasn't deserved or was, just pointing out that ppre season hype has more to do with the winner than anything if you ask me.

I have seen Nacarius Fant play in more than 90% of all of his games while at BGHS. There have been bigger (DL Moore) and faster (Blake Pillow) receivers for the Purples over the years, no one questions that. However, it is impossible to ignore the numbers. Not only has he moved up into the top 5 in the HISTORY of Kentucky Wide Receivers (probably top 3 by end of season) but the Purples have gotten better competition the past few years in their competition. Fant plays better when he is playing better competition. Colquett County (Georgia) is number 1 in the state I believe, Fant killed them in the 7 on 7, including the game winner.

 

Barker is an awesome QB. It is hard to ignore the 50 / 50 club. However, you need to take into consideration that Barker has played the majority of minutes in all of their games this year. Fant has played maybe 65% of the minutes for Purples. I am not a voter and I too am a "homer" but the "Mr. Football" goes to number 12 in Purple. What he has done in BG will not be matched for many years to come. Regardless if he wins it or not, he will play at a high level at the next level. Perks of being a receiver is height and speed, no doubt, but at the end of the day the receiver has to get open and catch the ball. You wont find a better receiver at this level that can do those two things!
