I have seen Nacarius Fant play in more than 90% of all of his games while at BGHS. There have been bigger (DL Moore) and faster (Blake Pillow) receivers for the Purples over the years, no one questions that. However, it is impossible to ignore the numbers. Not only has he moved up into the top 5 in the HISTORY of Kentucky Wide Receivers (probably top 3 by end of season) but the Purples have gotten better competition the past few years in their competition. Fant plays better when he is playing better competition. Colquett County (Georgia) is number 1 in the state I believe, Fant killed them in the 7 on 7, including the game winner.

 

Barker is an awesome QB. It is hard to ignore the 50 / 50 club. However, you need to take into consideration that Barker has played the majority of minutes in all of their games this year. Fant has played maybe 65% of the minutes for Purples. I am not a voter and I too am a "homer" but the "Mr. Football" goes to number 12 in Purple. What he has done in BG will not be matched for many years to come. Regardless if he wins it or not, he will play at a high level at the next level. Perks of being a receiver is height and speed, no doubt, but at the end of the day the receiver has to get open and catch the ball. You wont find a better receiver at this level that can do those two things!

He never played on a team the caliber of BG either. Of course he had to play all of the minutes in most of his games.

That is very true. Something a lot of people tend to ignore is the caliber of the team Drew played for. Not saying they were not very good, but they no where near had the talent that BG has or SK etc.

 

A very telling point would be how would each team do without the player we are talking about. BG woould still be pretty darn good if Fant was our hurt. SK still has the weapons to be very good without Kuntz, but I don't think Conner wins half the games they won without Barker.

 

 

I know you can't judge the best player by that, but when you start looking at numbers you have to reaalize just why some numbers are what they are. Barker didn't have a Fant to throw to etc. or a 1300 yard RB etc. He also didn't have a very skilled line, he had a line made up of first time starters. ffor what Barker had to work with I think he did an outstanding job and is why it's his or Fants when aall is said and done.

Exactly my point. Just look at the size of the line Barker had to play behind. He literally outweighed them all and was chased around half of the time. Not knocking their line at all because I'm sure they worked very hard and tried their best but those are just the facts.

I loved watching Fant last year at the finals and this year on video. I watched the entire game that was posted on here before the playoffs when he had game winning catch against the TN team. I know all about WR's and speed etc lol.

AWESOME! I honestly think we Purple Nation guys have become too accustomed to Fant just making really tough catches everytime so we think that should happen no matter who's out there. We'll get a taste of that next year, but just going to enjoy this run while it lasts.

 

Hope your son plays ball somewhere if he wants to. WRs like Wes Welker remind me of Fant and they are in demand. Hope WKU plays UK and Fant catches the winning TD pass in the corner of the end zone and us BGP guys will say told ya so.

Couldn't you say the same thing about Fant? So much talent around him that it's hard to focus on one thing. If you try to stop him, you get killed elsewhere. Their blocking allows for more time for him to get open. Any argument you make against Houliston can be made for anyone on a dominant team. You don't think every team HHS played wasn't doing everything in their power to stop the passing game. And I guess he didn't actually throw the ball to those guys. Just because a kid behind him is just as good, doesn't mean what Houliston did isn't incredible and should have an asterick beside it because he plays on a good team. I'm sure the kid is talented and sounds like he should be the favorite. I like Barker and think he's good, but I did kind of expect a little more out of him this year. To be fair, I never did get to see him play and I have no idea what kind of talent he had around him, but I just felt there would be a little more. It also could be all the hype catching up to him. Just like when you go to see what you think is going to be a great movie and you walk out saying it wasn't all that. Well a lot of times it's because you've heard so much about it that you were expecting your seat to explode or something. Maybe I just had unreal expectations since he was touted as Superman! Not just on here but other sites, including UK football sites.

No, it makes it look like what it is, HHS on a great, and I mean great, run of QB's who combine tremendous talent with years of hard work with the team mentality to sit and wait their turn. If I had Houliston's talent, and it was very apparent his sophmore year, I don't know that I could have waited my turn.

 

Dale's HHS system is to alter his offense to the talent he has on hand. Through 2009 it was a running team, 2010 and 2011 were passing offenses, 2012 was whatever McCoy decided to do mid play and now we're back to a passing offense. Looks like we'll be again next year given Hoge's ability.
