I won't even give you a linebacker, how about a safety that through most of the season was among the country's leading tackler. Henderson for Cooper. Like I said, i could care less about d-linemen, yoou made my point when you have no clue about anyone else and just go with the publicity and pre season hype. There are plenty of other players like I said you will never know of simply because they haven't gone to the camps and combines and gotten the publicity. If you went by stats then youur boy wouldn't even be mentioned period. You want to talk D-Linemen and you gave the stats for Elam, llet me help you out. I don't know of a lot of D-linemen so I could only go off of the team I know the most about, Cooper. J Nueman ha 86 tackles, 7 sacks and who knows how many tackles for a loss. That was only 1 D-Lineman I looked up on the team I know the best. Which again proves my point, you don't think publicity ppl;ays a huge role in this award to come up with the finalists? I just gave you 2 defensive players who had better seasons than Elam on a team that won't get a single look to when it comes to awards like this. 2 players that outside of the Cooper family or their district, no one ever heard of. Yet you listed Elam's great stats (and they were great stats)) yet I showed you 2 other players who had even better years and don't bring up the double team stuff, you don't think Nueman who was the only reutrning starter on the line wasn't doubled?

First thing, I never said Elam struggled and if i did, i didn't mean it like that. I said Elam had a great year. My point was that others also had great years and will never be mentioned simply because of the lack of publicity. Going into this season Elam was a front runner with Barker for the award, the name was already out there.

 

 

Now as far as Nueman, he had a great year, he also played both ways, was a starter on the O-line alsoo and still put up those numbers after never getting a break during the games. Henderson who alll through the season was among the top 20 in the country in tackles never got mentioned either.

 

That was my point. It wasn't that Elam didn't have an outstanding year, he did,but that others who acctually had better seasons will never be metnioned or thought about for this award. That was my point from the beginning when I said publicity plays a huge role in this award. Without the press you get ignored.

 

I have nothing against Elam at all, actually as I said numerous times I hope he picks UK because I want to see him and Barker turn that program around. Nothing against Elam at all, great player, one of the best D-linemen in the state in a couple years. I wasn't picking on him, just used him as an example to prove my point about others being ignored.

IMO Elam has no shot at Mr. Football. It will be a skill position player as it almost always is. Elam is a very good hs football player but in no way Mr. Football. He is getting recruited for his size and potential down the line.

He is so strong which I think is overloked by a lot of people when they talk about Drew. He has a lethal stiff arm which is displayed in that video several times. My son got a dose of that first hand this year as he sacked Drew for a 2 yard loss in their game when he knocked Drew out of bounds, but Drew gave him a nice stiff arm as they went out of bounds which sent my boy flying lol. Drew is fun to watch, aanyone that hadn't got a chance to see him hopefully will get to when he is at UK.

Congrats to Drew!!

As far as Elam goes, I think it'd be impossible/highly unlikely for a DL to win the award. They never have the statistical numbers to compete. It's like the Heisman. Elam winning would be the only way I admit to the award being political. I think you can make a strong case for several players who all deserve their names being mentioned.
