Class 6A Rankings for 10-29

Swish, Mayfield would still give them all they want and then some. Just because some on here from Mfd have stated they feel McCracken is a more talented team and that they wouldn't want to play them again, doesn't mean they'd automatically lose to them. The Stangs still have question marks on D and Mfd would still score a lot of points on them and the game would likely be very similar to the 1stmeeting.

That's a fair post! Of the two losses I would be more comfortable lining up against Tilghman than the Cards. But both squads would still provide tough competition with no guarantee of a win.

I do disagree re the defense comments. This past Friday 2 of Henderson's TD's can't be pinned on the defense. One was the silly pass by the otherwise outstanding QB. Just prior to that was a short field score set up by a great KO return. Except for a strong Colonel drive in the 3rd quarter, the MCHS defense did quite well and has had a fine run throughout the season. You weren't going to shut out the Colonels.

IMO, McCracken is 2-3 TD's better then PT and 1-2 better then Mayfield. Also I think they at least need to be ranked ahead of Butler.

This; 1' date='000 times this. You have Trinity and others loading up on GCL schools and some of Tennessee and Indiana's best, and you have 6A Simon Kenton playing Holy Cross and NewCath. Those schools are four classes below them. To value that undefeated record with anything more than a smirk and a wink is just burying your head in the sand. Play CovCath and Highlands, cross the river and play a GCL school or at least a Lakota West / Colerain / Winton Woods. Scott Co. may well be the #1 team in the state in the big school class, but to say SK is the 2nd best is laughable. I'm not convinced they are the #2 team in Northern KY (all classes) for Heaven's sake.[/quote']

Why is Scott Co possibly legit but SK isnt? When Scott Co schedule was weaker? SK's schedule included Newcath 2012 state champ, Collins 2012 state runner up, Holy Cross 2011 state champ and Cooper 2012 state runner up. It's not like they scheduled Lloyd, Dayton, Bellevue and Newport.

Sure SK's schedule isn't Trinity's but it's not like they went out looking for cupcakes either. They've won all of the games they've played and frankly that's about all they can do.

Why would it be irritating to see the 2 undefeated teams on top of the rankings. Are people supposed to punish these teams for being undefeated. You want to talk schedule strength, well you'll soon see in the playoffs if your theories are correct. Until then, the OP poll is accurate according to how every other sports entity in the world would rank it. Only in KY High school are folks discussing teams that have lost 2,3,4 games as being ranked higher.

If a ranking is a snapshot of the ongoings year to date at that point, then the original post rankings are accurate.

Unless you folks feel that the rankings are merely a hypothesis of playoff results. You should be ranked by what you've done or not done. Point blank period.

What happens in the playoffs has nothing to do with these rankings. The rankings are based on body of work to this date and judgments about how good a team is. To use your words, if we rank a team based on "what you've done or not done" then Scott Co. is lacking. When I look at a team's body of work, who they played is almost as important as what their record is. I think Scott Co. got a bit of a pass on their schedule early in the season because of how well they did in the playoffs last year. Once people realized how weak their schedule is, it began to create doubts about how good they truly are. What they have done, is go undefeated against ok teams by wide margins of victory. What they have not done, is play one single team that is a worthy opponent, so I have no idea what happens when they play a worthy opponent. That is where I am. They may be the best team in the state but they haven't beaten one decent team yet to cause me to believe that might be true. Playing strong opponents gives us better insight into how good a team really is and we have no clue in that area on Scott Co., other than they are beating ok teams by big margins. At least Simon Kenton has wins over four ranked teams - Dixie Heights, Collins, Conner and Newport Central Catholic. Now, 3 of those four are in smaller classes but they are good wins. If I could get over Scott Co. annihilating SK twice last year, I would rank SK above Scott Co.

The trouble spot in the 6A rankings is Trinity hasn't won enough against the tough schedule. It is great to play a tough schedule but playing those teams isn't enough - you need to get wins. The second issue is everyone in the super district is beating up on each other. That puts losses on the records even if it is against a very good opponent. But the four teams in the super district (T, X, Male and Manual) have one loss to a Kentucky team outside their district - X losing to Bowling Green. They also have lopsided scrimmage wins over two top ten teams (T over Highlands and X over Simon Kenton).

Until someone in KY 6A hangs a loss on those teams, or on a team that is close to that quality, then it is hard for me to rank them above those teams.

I think we are on the same page. T seems vulnerable, Louisville as a whole sounds very deep. McCracken may not be getting the respect they deserve. Then you have SK and Scott Co. SK getting their butts handed to them twice last year by Scott Co certainly hasn't left my mind either. In that regard I have no problem with SK being below Scott Co because it doesn't seem like they've missed a best since last season. I think the top 7 are the Louisville district, Scott Co, McCracken and SK. All of them in my opinion are CAPABLE of winning state we will see what happens over the coming weeks.

Pioneer Nation! Super district is weak! :p
You would be 0-4 against our district. Chew on that.

Busy working.

Shows you how much you know! SK crushed Male in 08 28 to 10! SK will crush them again!

^ you won't see them....you may end up with the Xaverians again.....will that work for you?

I can give Scott Co a pass on there schedule, moreso than SK. I do think last years blowout losses to Scott Co says something and I do think Scott Co's close loss to a better Trinity team from 2012 says something. Plus, when Scott Co played H.Clay, they were undefeated and ranked 7th in 6A. Scott destroyed them, scoring 70 or so points and the final score was closer than the game actually was. SK does have a few more quality wins this year than does SC, but, they've not been near as dominant against these better teams either. Conner, Dixie and Collins were all fairly close games. IMO, if Scott played those same teams, the margin of victory would have been substantially more, because I put all 3 of those teams in about the same class as HClay.

Please stop using a 2012 score to defend Scott County. 2012 has nothing to do with 2013. X lost 15-14 to T in 2012 and we all see how both squads are doing.

Hendo is known as a good defensive team, but, there offense hasn't knocked anyones doors off this year. What that game told me more than anything was that McCracken is a very, very good offensive team. I think Mayfields offense is considerable stronger and a lot more balanced than Hendo's, so, I think they'd still manage to score in the 30s, if not more. Now, that still may not be enough to beat the Stangs, but, I'm pretty sure, we'd be right there in the ballgame in crunchtime and who knows what would happen then. If it came down to needing a last ditch FG, I'd like the Cards chances pretty good.

Don't get me wrong. Mayfield is really, really good. But in my opinion they couldn't get McCracken off the field right now. Hughes is a different player than he was at beginning of season, with the one really bad pass against Henderson aside. McCracken also played Mayfield without Sayner anchoring defensive line. I would take McCracken by 1 to 2 touchdowns at this point.
