So again, Scott County loses in the Title Game in 2011. Loses by 1 point to Trinity in the Semis last year and is undefeated this year. Bringing back the majority of those players. And that is the only losses they have on their schedules in 3 years.........But they cant lay claim to being the best this season so far, seeing that they have continued their trend of winning and other traditional powers have slipped a bit back to the field???? Folks will find out soon enough as the playoffs begin......

Right. Past performance not being used as evidence like you suggest. Then you of all people should support a team that is undefeated atop the rankings. If not using your sense of past accomplishment, you have tangible evidence that none of the teams in the super district are unbeatable. Tangible. As to this season, Scott county is unbeaten and deserving of the #1 Ranking by their name. anything else, is speculation and theory. Unless you want to use past performance as a predictor......but you say that doesnt matter....soooooooooooo.....

I could care less about the rankings, see post #82. But if I did care about the rankings, I wouldn't have any problem ranking Scott at the top if there was one game against a worthy opponent to judge them on.

I think this is good info that does bolster Scott County's case to be #1, mainly because of your statement that they return most of their players from last year. Scott Co. does have a good argument to be #1. These polls are all speculation although the deeper you get into a season, the more data we have to make better guesses.

 

The weak schedule is the issue and where people like me have doubts. I have often seen undefeated teams late in the season lose games by wide margins because that undefeated record was built playing a weak schedule. A good example this year is the other school named Scott who plays in 5A. They were undefeated and mostly unthreatened but have lost their last two games. Why? Because those last 2 teams were the two best teams they have played. That is an example of why I have doubts about Scott Co. and question whether they have truly earned being #1. I want to see them play and beat a high quality team.

 

You don't have to reply and/or try to defend them. I know you are done with that. I just wanted to clarify further where the doubts come from about them being #1 despite being undefeated.

Well, there is that pesky 60-37 beat down from Highlands last year.

Lost to Trinity by 7 last year. I was there.

Good thing about this thread is we will know who is wrong and who is right in just a week!

 

It will take 2-3 weeks before Scott Co. plays anyone, but I get your point - it all gets settled on the field.

Their offense only scored 1 TD against the Rocks. The other score was a pick 6. Their offense was run, run, deep ball. No intermediate passing game at all.

 

Once Trinity commited their sick RB Dawkins, literally sick and fighting a stomach bug, he moved the chains and Scott County suddenly lost r the ability to stop the Rocks.

 

That said, if Scott County had any kind of intermediate passing game they would have won that game.

Two teams on SC schedule that I think turned bad for them, which upon scheduling I think were looked at as possibly tougher opponents, were Ryle and PRP. PRP was coming off a 6A state title game loss and Ryle was in its third year after a state title loss. I'm not saying that I know what was going on with the schedule, but my theory is that SC thought Ryle would be rebuilt after three years (especially with 19 seniors and 25 juniors) and that PRP would be solid as well. Not the case, as both turned out below average, and coupled with GRC, North Hardin and Seneca make for a pretty weak schedule. I don't have a problem playing any Lexington schools, even though they've been down as a whole for a bit now too.

 

With that being said, SC didn't play anyone last year either outside of Highlands, which was a blowout, then took T down to the wire and IMO should have won. Do I think the loss to Highlands played into the T game? NOT AT ALL.

 

A good game plan and in-game adjustments, along with good athletes did that. I don't think a loss to Highlands in week two gave SC what it took to hang with T in week 15.

 

SOS shouldn't be ignored, but I don't think it's the end-all-be-all of measuring sticks.

 

You play who you play, and SC could have easily shot itself in the foot several times this year, but hasn't so far. Maybe they are that good and that no matter who they would've played they would beat? Idk if that's true or not, so I'll leave it to the actual games to give us the answer.

 

The top 7 teams in 6A all have a shot to win I think, which hasn't been the case in year's past. Personally, I'm a fan of a seemingly wide-open race.
