The real issue in this game had absolutely nothing and I mean nothing to do with the timeouts called at the end of the first half. The score was only 42-0 at that time and the only way to get plays off was to call timeout. If working on a 2 minute drill as proposed above, do you not have your placekicker warming up to attempt a field goal if need be or is it only done to attempt to score a touchdown? If the latter, then is that really a 2 minute drill?

Yes. The object of any drive is to score a touchdown. If you are going to run your 2 minute offense, you run your 2 minute offense or don't bother with it.

And what if you are down 2 points with under a minute left to go in the game?

Then you practice a field goal. That obviously wasn't what they were doing if in fact the 2 minute drill was the reason for thetimeout

The complaints are ludicrous and calling attention to them is nothing more than stirring the pot.

Because they are the Bowling Green of northern KY????

Hey, we love to be compared to the BEST team in KY!

The words couth and class come to mind.

Regardless of the score, your first string plays the entire first half as aggressively as possible.

Even after I lost my ACL, I continued to chart the plays on Saturdays in street clothes when I was a freshman QB at Centre. One Saturday we were destroying Rhodes College, and the final score was 61-0. Our head coach, a great coach and person, Joe McDaniel, was calling timeouts and throwing the ball deep at the end of the half. I can’t remember the score, but at the half I think we had over 40 points.

The Rhodes coach was a good friend of Coach McDaniel’s. At halftime, I was walking off the field with Coach McDaniel when the opposing coach came running over saying something to the effect of, “Joe, what are you doing? Why are you running up the score?”

Coach told him that in the first half, your team remains aggressive and tries to score as much as you can. After the first half, that is the time to back off.

That has stuck with me as a coach. Regardless of the score, we usually continue to play aggressively until the half.

This...

When there is a running clock, time stops for a timeout? I didn't realize that. I thought clock keeps moving no matter what

As has been shown here...yes, they are.

During a running clock, it stops after a score, if a time out is called, and for an injury.

I also believe anything goes , score wise, in the first half. With a bye week and Holmes coming up I think it was an attempt to get a few more reps for the offense. If the stats on Scoreboard are correct Highlands only ran 26 offensive plays the whole game. With Elder and improving Warren Central after Holmes you can't really blame HHS for trying to get a few extra reps.

Did they not get plenty of reps the last 3 weeks against the likes of John Hardin, Paducah Tilghman and Covington Catholic? They could scrimmage amongst themselves the next week and get more out of it than against a team like Harrison County IMO.
