August 27, 201313 yr I honestly don't think he could have done that either. He was playing back and it was hit too softly. Definitely a brain cramp by Votto but nothing would have changed on the play on a slow hit ball to him 10 feet behind the base. I'm not 100% sure either but since he didn't charge it very hard because he thought it was three outs we will never know.
August 27, 201313 yr I'm in favor using Chapman whenever he is needed. Fact is some guys can't work the 9th and they have proven that. Chapman can so I would try to get as close as I could before using him. The unrealistic part is asking Chapman to try to get ready as quickly as that inning imploded. Fair enough. I can deal with the bolded part but you made it sound originally like you were completely opposed to using him if it wasn't the 9th.
August 27, 201313 yr Fair enough. I can deal with the bolded part but you made it sound originally like you were completely opposed to using him if it wasn't the 9th. Absolutely not. I was glad to see him used in the 8th last week but that was a little easier to predict than tonight.
August 27, 201313 yr What can you say. This is why the Cards are the best team in the NL. They hit when it counts and are just better than the Reds. This is one the Reds have to win. You get clutch hitting from Frazier and Cozart. They should coast when those two hit. Hoover has given up two slammies in 6 days to lose leads. 0'fers for the big guys except Bruce's solo shot. They gotta win the next 2 for sanity and to stay in the division race. It wouldn't be over but pretty darn near.
August 27, 201313 yr This team reminds me a lot of the Bengals. They beat bad teams but can't beat good teams when it counts. They are very mediocre in that aspect. When you lose series to teams like the Brewers and then blow multiple run leads in the 7th inning etc. to teams you have to beat, well they give me ulcers lol.

August 27, 201313 yr Reds haven't won a series against the Cardinals all year. they are 0-4 in series against them.
August 27, 201313 yr I think the Reds try too hard versus the Cardinals. Maybe that is saying the same thing as choking. But what happens a lot in sports in big games or against tough opponents is players and teams try to do too much. Every pitch has to be the perfect pitch. Batters want to hit the ball too much. Votto's brain cramp in the field is an example ... thinking too much. The Reds need to just play their game, be aggressive pitching and relax at the plate.
