    • Yes, the game counts and I think he's one of the best players in the league.

    • No, he hasn't played enough games yet and that isn't the way you pick the team.

0 for 4 last night will do that to you...he's batting .333 in last 8 games. Dropped his average to .420

What I took from UKMF's statement is that with a small enough sample size, you can make stats say anything you want. Obviously, some people say that based upon what he's done so far, he could be the next coming of Willie Mays. And they may be right. On the other hand, there's others that say he could end up being the next version of Jeff Francouer. And you know what, they can be right.

I just don't think you can take this small of a sample size, and accurately predict anything. And since we usually don't make All-Star selections on what a player just did ONLY in the past month, I'm fine with leaving him off this team. It's not like there's not several other guys that can come off the bench, too.

He averages around 3.1 pitches per at bat, so he goes up looking to hit. Until pitchers start trying to pitch around him he's not going to walk much.

You or someone else posted stats, or maybe I read it somewhere else, about how his batting average drops dramatically the more pitches he sees. I think you will see pitchers start pitching him backwards ... not throwing strikes and nibbling on the corners early in the count. Let's see how he handles that over the next two weeks. My whole thing with Puig is 20-25 games is a ridiculously small sample size in baseball.

I see them pitching him backwards too. When a rookie comes up, pitchers see the opportunity to get quick at-bats thus keeping their pitch count down. Puig has proved that to be a bad strategy against him, atleast early on. Now that pitchers see that, they will start mixing things up like they do to many other hitters.

Under .300 over his last 6 games....

3-4 again last night. Now at -.435 for the year.

This guy rises to the occassion. He got the big hit last night to score the game winning run. If I'm managing to win this game, I'd really struggle to leave this guy off. He's got 5 tools that can help me win the game off the bench and has already displayed an act for stepping up to the big moment.

4-5 today with a double, triple, 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Now hitting .436 on the season.

What a waste, can't even hit .440...jeez

I haven't read through this entire thread so this may have been mentioned.

The argument FOR his inclusion is that we already let fans vote so it's not like there is a set of requirements to be met to get the invite. Some feel it's a game for the fans anyway so let the fans see who they want. My guess is if you polled fans tonight who they would like to see against the other top players that this kid would be at the top of the list.

Has he "earned" it? Not with only 100 ABs.

Would I be more inclined to watch if he made it? Yes.

He was at .440 until his last AB today.

First guy since about 1925 to have 44 hits in his first 100 ABs.

If he is playing I'll go out of my way to watch, just to see how he does against the best pitcher(s). If he's not playing I'll record and fast forward through it the next day.

OK, put this kid in the All-Star game. He's playing out of his mind obviously but it's fun to watch.

Paplebon says it would be a joke.

Papelbon on Puig: He shouldn't be an All-Star | Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia

Billy Ripken and Mitch Williams agreed with him on MLB Network.

We've all known Papelbon was nuts for some time now. Did you see him riverdance after the Sox swept the Rockies in 2007? Williams is just as nuts and Ripken is just upset that he never made it.
