Simple yes or no question for ya AJG.....Right now, not based on "physical talent" or "tools" or potential, is Puig one of the best 5 OF'ers in the NL?

You need to go back and re-read Reds threads it sounds like. I'm almost never posting during games, unless they're day games, because I'm rarely on a computer outside of work.

As to the bolded, do you get all your talking points from Cowherd?

No one actually believes he's better than Kemp. That's almost as ridiculous as the Griffey Jr. comparison.

Have you watched Kemp play lately? I don't think he's nearly the same player that he was. He's either not completely healed from the surgery or he's not going to be able to get back to where he was. It's totally killed his power.

As for the Griffey comparison, I'll stand by what I said. He's got the most physical gifts of any player I've seen come into the league since Junior. In no way did I say he'd have a career anything like Junior, just that he has an enormous amount of ability. If you can't see that ability after watching him for a few games you don't know baseball.

He produced at a 34 HR 105 RBI pace last year....Totally killed his power...:lol2:

That's not a question that can be answered with a simple yes or no. There's all kinds of outfielders filling all kinds of roles. Physical talent and tools have to be factored in. I could rephrase it like this: how many outfielders in the NL would teams NOT trade for Puig right now?

Besides, your 5 outfielder thing won't hold up anyway. Several of the leading guys are on the DL or banged up. Braun, Cargo and Gomez are all hurt right now. When guys start bowing out due to injury you're not going to be just looking at the top 5.

Not if you're trying to win one game, right now.

Of course teams would wanna trade for him....He's a talented 22 year old with potential. Guess Garritt Cole should be an All-Star too?

He had surgery in OCTOBER of last year. AFTER the season. He's hit 2 homers in 210 plate appearances since.

You're the one who said the Kemp of "2 years ago"....Last year seemed to be pretty darn good too. He's been battling nagging injuries all season. I don't put much stock in those numbers.

Two years ago he was hitting .324 with 39 homers and 40 steals. Last season he lost 21 points off of his batting average, 48 points off of his slugging average and only had 9 steals in about 2/3 of a season. He was good when he played last season, he was MVP level 2 seasons ago.

What he was last season is more than can ever be expected from Puig, which is my point. You and ESPN need to slow down on the Puig lovefest. He's a solid player. He's not the next coming of the all-time greats.

More than can EVER be expected from Puig? So you want to go on record now as saying that Puig will NEVER have a season where he approaches .303 with 23 homers, 69 RBIs and 9 SB? You think that's above his ceiling, huh?

Yes, what Kemp was last season, projected over a full season, is more than Puig will ever be.

I agree with AJG in that Puig is a special talent, and has some unbelievable skills. I still don't believe he should be picked to make the team. Same thing I said last year for Harper.

No, you can't go with projections. You said he'd never be what Kemp was last season. Last season Kemp was .303, 23 homers, 69 RBIs and 9 steals. Barring injury Puig has a shot at all of those numbers this season.

:lol2: I can go with whatever I want. That's why I brought up his projected numbers. You can't predict injuries.

I can't stand Harper and I'd be shocked if both he and Trout don't have much better (and longer) careers than Puig. I'd be surprised if he isn't at least 2-3 years older than what he claims. :lol2:
