I never said the collinsworth kid wasn't a good football player, I simply said he was not major D1 talent. I simply said, if his last name was smith, he doesn't end up at Norte dame. I watched the kid play and saw game film. I personally feel he wasn't as good a football player as Brady hightchew, but it is what it is. Being a cpl inches taller and having Chris collinsworth as your dad helps a ton. Now, with that being said, that doesn't mean he can't become a solid player for Norte dame as most kids will get bigger, faster, stronger in their first couple of years in college.

 

I really don't know how much more informed I need to be.

Before Collinsworth got hurt I believe he was Special Teams player of the year and was listed as 2nd string safety behind a senior........hmmmmm? I guess he can't play or isn't a D1 athlete...:ohbrother:

Here's a bombshell for you HHS people as well....collinsworth would have been the third RB in 10 for NCC behind cane and Kelly. Also, he wouldn't have beaten Hayes out.

Do HHS/NCC frosh play again this season? I went to the game last year and wow what a great crowd for a Freshman game. NCC made it interesting for a little while and then HHS wore them down. I think that is a pattern that would be seen on the Varsity level as well. Hopefully they can get this game played again.

He had a choice between Stanford/Oregon/Vanderbuilt/Cincinnati/Kentucky and Notre Dame from what I can remember. I'm sure there is more. Someone at these schools sure saw something in the kid. So I wonder what kind of excuse people will make when Seth Hope declares to a school. I mean Hope/Collinsworth aren't spelled anywhere close. I'm sure we will hear how Seth Hope is a very over rated "DL" and shouldn't deserve a chance to play college football because a former college/NFL player turned comedian says he isn't worthy.

Nah, can't you read? It was because of his name. The coaches and recruiters whose livelihoods depend on getting the talented players and winning are more interested in giving a kid a chance because of who his dad is, not because of his abilities. Makes all the sense in the world to me.

In fact, I'm not sure how you break into the circle. If ALL kids that have ex-professional athletes as fathers are given a free pass, there wouldn't be room for all the common folk at any of the D1 schools!

 

In all seriousness, I'm sure having a dad that is well known in the football area definitely helps with getting the exposure. However, if anyone is dumb enough to think at the end of the day that it doesn't come down to talent and upside when choosing a legit top of the line D1 recruit, you are absolutely crazy. They will not give a D1 scholarship to someone they don't feel can help the program! Period. They are too valuable to the program to give them to just anyone. Especially at a major football school like ND.

 

We all know that 91 is just poking fun and trying to get under the HHS fan's skin (and it's easy to do where there is a legit reason to be passionate), but if he seriously believes he only got into ND because of his dad, 91 has some issues. Hopefully he's just playin!
