Didn't Mike Herald coach the 6th grade at HMS? I was thinking he would be the 1st in line for the varsity gig.

Yes but he is not interested and he isnt the answer either.

I think the entire program from top to bottom needs to develop some nastiness and toughness. I get tired of watching kids from middle to High School play soft and not get after it physically. Whoever takes the job I certainly hope they demand the kids play a tougher brand of basketball throughout the entire program.

I looked at the end of the year Varsity stats and several kids played 25+ games and had 50 or less fouls. I watched a group of very skilled 6th graders play about as soft defensively as I have ever seen. 8 of those 6th graders now play AAU together and the carryover is ridiculously frustrating. Its like we have to re-teach them how to play defense and beg them to actually agitate the offensive player.

I agree....middle school is the place to teach them to get in and bang. Only a handful 6th through 8th that seem to get it...Where's the Dennis Rodman box out when you need it?

Best of luck to Coach Flynn. He was always a class act in a very challenging environment. He didn't just compete for kid committment with football. Bball program has also lost a couple kids to HHS soccer only from the class of 2014 -- could have been 3's or 4's, both over 6'3". Lost one after his freshman year and the other after his 10th grade season. Great bball potential in both of those kids, imo

Hunt is very well liked by players. He was very active in the program this last year, and always seemed to be enjoying the endeavor...critical in any turnaround.

Ooh, ooh, call on me I wanna guess too...

T.J. Lykins anyone?

I like TJ and I think his coaching style was swayed a lot by Flynn's influence but I think it is either going to be a current HC somewhere else or Hunt/Feldman. Jmo

The kids really like TJ though.

He didn't lose them! They made other choices! The last thing a coach wants is a kid who would rather be somewhere else. Those kids need to be doing what is best for them, those are the kids that become problems for the program., not to mention their parents or the parents of their friends who like to get on public forums and bash coaches.

Huh? Please give us names as I would love to hear this.

I would love to know who you are talking about. I know just about every athlete in the school, especially who the kids are that can play hoops. Please share this with us.

Here is a list of kids I thought could have helped the program if they would have committed themselves to getting better at the sport in the offseason. I am not saying they would have just stepped in and made the team better but they had potential to help the program.

Hoge, Urlage, Hope, Collinsworth, Christian

There are only 2 kids in the sophmore class I know of that could of helped the basketball team if they would of kept playing.. They are Beau Hoge and Griffin Urlage..

I believe you, too. However, don't you think at some point he'd want to stay in the same building? I kinda thought of him for the Walton job since they live out there.

It's my belief that Erik Goetz will apply and will be considered for the job. I don't know much about HC, but when you can't even make it out of your district, it has to be frustrating. Now will be a good time for him to move on, if that's what he chooses to do.

Just don't see this happening.

If you "recruit" from within the student body, what do you owe them! Kids who want to play will play! Coach those who have the guts to practice and show up. Let the others play rec league somewhere and tell everyone how good they

are.

This is an old story, but in '64 Coach Conners walked up to a 6'5 swimmer in NewCath's hall and recruited him to the basketball team. Seemed to work out for both parties. You have to get the fence sitters, even if it is not ideal.

It is Coach Connor

One of the greatest coaches in Ky. history.

What I don't understand about the program is that Ft. Thomas always seems to have solid youth and middle school programs. I realize this isn't always a great indicator of success but... where do some of those kids go?

Has Josh Feldman resigned at Brossart yet?

The job is not even posted on the school webpage and I highly doubt there is any urgency since spring football is in full swing. Would expect a new coach to be in place in early April at the latest.

Where are FTTS and IMSAYS to chime in on this thread?
