Mike Flynn Resigns From Highlands

Recommended Posts

Highlands will be good shortly? Well first off you have to practice in the offseason to get better. This program is strictly a football program. If the student athlete doesn't practice in the offseason, the result is nil. I heard posts of blaming the prior coaches on kids not getting better. Did you see the talent of players at that school. These kids didn't have fundamentals of basketball. I hope Kevin will turn the program around and Mike Flynn did the best he can, but you have to understand he had talent wherever he coached at. Their is going to have to be a lot of changes done and this program won't turnaround shortly. You can have the best coaches but if your not practicing in the offseason, you don't get better. I don't see these kids practicing. Their was one kid that started last year that didn't play football, and he was more influenced on getting his body in shape than getting better at the sport itself. Don't get me wrong your body needs a makeover but you need to practice also. It was embarrassing watching some games up there, but they did get better towards the end of the year. I wouldn't want to play for the Listermans. Good luck but you all got what you wanted. I won't be up there at any of the games at all. I'll be reading of all the losses in the Enquirer each week.

That technical foul didn't play a part in Covcath losing their emotions. Holmes was one of the best teams in state and have a DIV 1 point guard that is getting recruited by several top schools. I think he showed his butt by getting a technical foul. Personally know the Listerman's, not interested. Mike was more interested in his lawn care company than anything else. I assume people are jealous of Highlands and it is a great place to teach and live in the community. The basketball program is like non existent unless you have a superb athlete playing on the team. I don't see any superb athletes their or coming through the program for years to come. If coach Hunt doesn't get the job, maybe he will coach somewhere else down the road, but I would not want to coach there if you don't get a chance. Being an outstanding athlete their, putting in time to improve the program but your word doesn't mean anything is tough. The sad thing is that is coaching ability was scrutinized due to being in the shadow of Flynn. If you think that Kevin Listerman will come in and change the program in a couple of years, your fulling yourself. That school is based on politics anyhow. You have to kiss butt up there and it's nearly impossible to keep the parents happy. I wanted to grap some of the parents and explain to them that if your son doesn't practice in the offseason, you don't get any better. It's not the coaches job to make you better, you have to do it on your own. I don't see that happening unless the kids want to get better.

Put away the grapes my friend, they are getting really really sour. Nice of you to rip on high school kids and I am sure Q will be more than happy to address you himself. This program needs a shot in the arm and hopefully Kevin can do that. I do agree with you that kids need to work on their game in the offseason, but maybe the coach or coaches need to be a little more demanding and have higher expectations of the kids. If they do not want to live up to the expectations then maybe they should be cut from the program and go with the younger kids or lesser talented kids that want to work hard.

Perhaps Coach Hunt will stick around and continue to work with the program, but based upon your responses I am guessing that will not be the case. Found it rather interesting that when he found out he was not amongst the first to be interviewed that he quit showing up for the open gyms.

Sour grapes! Please do us a favor and don't step in the gym. I just want to see energy in the ranks. I can't speak for the upper classes but I can assure you incoming kids will play and work hard! Talent can be developed overtime. I am hoping for a basketball revival!!

You won't be missed. Don't let the door hit ya. If you were a Highlands fan, you would root for them regardless of player, coach, or circumstance.

The main reason I think Steve qualifies for the position is I have known him a long time. I know how much he knows about the game of basketball. He is one of the best players to ever come out of Highlands, and could be the best point guard to ever play there. He played at a Div 1 level, and is a very likeable person. He gets along we'll with the players, and if he's in charge he has the last say in the matter. He can and will work with these kids in the off season, especially the guard play. He just understands the game of basketball. But ultimately it comes down to Dale Mueller and the principle.

Welcome to the site Hobie. 13 posts and 11 have slammed the Highlands program, 1 slammed the Horseshoe casino and this one praised your buddy Steve Hunt. I personally like coach Hunt. I think he does a great job with the kids (plus he was qualified because you have know him a long time). I've never seen Kevin Listerman in action on the sidelines. That being said, I'm sure the folks at Highlands looked into all candidates and chose who they felt would best help the program at this time. No dog in this hunt, but I wish the best for Coach Listerman and the Highland Bluebird hoopsters. It is what it is, get over it and go to the games to support the kids who will be playing their hearts out for Listerman and whoever ends up on his staff.

Go Cry in your beer Hobie. Just Because Hunt didnt get the job or an interview shouldnt give you the right to RIP on HS kids.

As far as my son working on his body more than his game, well all I can say is I wish I was 6-2 198lbs with ripped abs. I guess he Figured his future was in fitness and being healthy and not playing collefe basketball. I supported him throughout his career and so did the Bird fans, true Bird fans.

The only thing you make a good point about is the kids playing more in offseason and that can only come from within.

Go back Into hibernation now.
