Mike Flynn Resigns From Highlands

Featured Replies

I have no idea who will get the job or even who the leading candidates would be; however, I would be shocked if Mike Listerman is considered. Despite Mustang's crush on Listerman, he is not the cure to the birds problems.

Maybe he and his son could be a cure to the Bluebird Basketball Mediocrity.

Mustang may have been close.

Well everyone who has posted info about the process has been wrong to date.

Straight from the horse's mouth tonight: committee meeting for the first time tomorrow (4/11) to discuss applicants, interviews to begin Monday 4/22.

The committee is doing a fine job of one thing -- not giving out any info at all.

The rumors circulating are being passed on by the N Ky coaching fraternity.

Dale said the committee would meet 4/11 to reveiw applications - they did.

Dale said they will be interviewing Monday April 22nd. This was info he offered freely to the Athletic Boosters, no reason to believe the process will be handled in any other manner.

Thanks for the information. You really know how to slow down a thread. I guess next post will be on or after April 22.

Oh there is reason to believe but I am not but I am not going there. It happens all the time in business.

I am not naive. I realize that meetings happen, contact is made, and deals struck outside the structure of the hiring process.

I also know that this hiring may not just be of a basketball coach. It may be, but it may be tied to a teaching position also. With that in mind the principal must be involved.

Monday April 22nd / Tuesday April 23rd are the next dates of importance in this process. Patience.

Well I'm back on bluegrasspreps giving my opinion and my opinion only. I can't believe that Kevin Listerman would be on the list of coach's that should get the job. He played at Covcath correct? Okay that's like having Coach K coming to coach at UK. I'm sorry but that should never happen. I have stated over and over that Steve Hunt is the best fit for this position. He has a great relationship with the kids, understands the game of basketball like no one else. He's has put his time in as an assistant for the girls and recently the boys. He has put his time in. Now it's time to give him a shot. I know in all my heart that he will do a great job. He will teach these kids the fundamental of basketball and will always preach team first. He is a great teacher of the game and give him time and he will turn this program around. His life is basketball and high school athletes. He has a passion for kids like no other. I haven't ran into a kid yet that doesn't like him and can talk to him about anything.

Where is "Hobie" to chime in on this subject? Where are the kids? What needs to be done in order to get them there?

Once again, lose the "kids like him", "paid his dues" argument. You give the job to whoever best fits with the goals of the school and athletic department. In high school athletics, the fact remains that loyalty is dead. This is true with schools to coaches and kids to schools.

I anticipate Listerman getting this one.

Or like Rick Pitino coaching Kentucky and later at Louisville. Oh wait, that did happen.

Nobody is disputing that but the writing seems to be on the wall.

Well I assume that Listerman will get the job. I am a loyal Kentucky and Louisville fan. They have always been my two favorite teams. I assume that Kevin is a good coach and will be the front runner for the job. His father is a knuckle head, and showed his butt at halftime of the 9th region finals when he ran and confronted Covcath's head coach and the referee's. Of course he received a technical foul. I bet the program goes south and I wouldn't want to come play for him. I couldn't stand his father when he was the assistant vice principal at highlands and he will most likely be as stern as his dad. Good luck to the new staff but I can guarantee you that I won't be catching any games at the school for a long time. A Covcath guy coming to coach at Highlands, that's a joke if you ask me. Don't these two schools still hate each other?

Who cares where he graduated from. Most people never work where they graduate from. He has spent more time at Colerain than he ever did at Cov Cath. There is no rule that states you can't coach at a place that was your high school rival. This is about an opportunity to be a head coach at a place that may be able to become a good program. Highlands will be good shortly.

Hobie you are so far off base.

Kevin will be a Biology teacher at HHS, not a principal.

Mike definately overreacted at halftime of the regional game and his team paid the price. He let the heat of the moment get the best of him. Not sure that Kevin sharing his dad's passion for kids and the game of basketball can be anything but a positive for HHS.

I am excited to have my son play for Kevin and will support the team for years to come.

You have completely misread the CovCath/HHS situation. Hate - no, Respect - yes. When you are successful school academically and in sports, others want to be at that level.

Who won the regional game? Listerman got the one he wanted.

The Listerman incident at the 9th Region game between Holmes and CovCath was as scripted and calculated as one would ever know.

No way did ML overreact in the heat of the moment, he did exactly what he knew he needed to do in the moment. Embarrassment? I dont think so, tactical, yes indeed. It worked, it didnt cost Holmes the game but it did cost CovCath the game. I believe CovCath loss their heads and let their emotions get to them because of the Listerman/CovCath relationship.

The Holmes kids, they could care less what happened in the that moment, the CovCath kids took it personal and let their emotions get the best of them. Looks like the Ole Dog pulled a fast one on the Blueboys. ML learned from one of the best in Kenny Shields.

Anyone that says Highlands hates CovCath is ignorant and misinformed imo. Highlands has the upmost respect for CovCath and anyone from the Highlands camp that says differently needs to grow up...

If you dont personally know the Listerman family then you are missing an opportunity imo. Good people that represent themselves well and stand for the right things, I hope Kevin and Dad are coaching together in Ft Thomas next season.

Very good post and I agree and have the utmost respect for the family! Having two son's that will eventually come through the program this is music to my ears!
