  1. That technical foul didn't play a part in Covcath losing their emotions. Holmes was one of the best teams in state and have a DIV 1 point guard that is getting recruited by several top schools. I think he showed his butt by getting a technical foul. Personally know the Listerman's, not interested. Mike was more interested in his lawn care company than anything else. I assume people are jealous of Highlands and it is a great place to teach and live in the community. The basketball program is like non existent unless you have a superb athlete playing on the team. I don't see any superb athletes their or coming through the program for years to come. If coach Hunt doesn't get the job, maybe he will coach somewhere else down the road, but I would not want to coach there if you don't get a chance. Being an outstanding athlete their, putting in time to improve the program but your word doesn't mean anything is tough. The sad thing is that is coaching ability was scrutinized due to being in the shadow of Flynn. If you think that Kevin Listerman will come in and change the program in a couple of years, your fulling yourself. That school is based on politics anyhow. You have to kiss butt up there and it's nearly impossible to keep the parents happy. I wanted to grap some of the parents and explain to them that if your son doesn't practice in the offseason, you don't get any better. It's not the coaches job to make you better, you have to do it on your own. I don't see that happening unless the kids want to get better.
  2. Highlands will be good shortly? Well first off you have to practice in the offseason to get better. This program is strictly a football program. If the student athlete doesn't practice in the offseason, the result is nil. I heard posts of blaming the prior coaches on kids not getting better. Did you see the talent of players at that school. These kids didn't have fundamentals of basketball. I hope Kevin will turn the program around and Mike Flynn did the best he can, but you have to understand he had talent wherever he coached at. Their is going to have to be a lot of changes done and this program won't turnaround shortly. You can have the best coaches but if your not practicing in the offseason, you don't get better. I don't see these kids practicing. Their was one kid that started last year that didn't play football, and he was more influenced on getting his body in shape than getting better at the sport itself. Don't get me wrong your body needs a makeover but you need to practice also. It was embarrassing watching some games up there, but they did get better towards the end of the year. I wouldn't want to play for the Listermans. Good luck but you all got what you wanted. I won't be up there at any of the games at all. I'll be reading of all the losses in the Enquirer each week.
  3. Well I assume that Listerman will get the job. I am a loyal Kentucky and Louisville fan. They have always been my two favorite teams. I assume that Kevin is a good coach and will be the front runner for the job. His father is a knuckle head, and showed his butt at halftime of the 9th region finals when he ran and confronted Covcath's head coach and the referee's. Of course he received a technical foul. I bet the program goes south and I wouldn't want to come play for him. I couldn't stand his father when he was the assistant vice principal at highlands and he will most likely be as stern as his dad. Good luck to the new staff but I can guarantee you that I won't be catching any games at the school for a long time. A Covcath guy coming to coach at Highlands, that's a joke if you ask me. Don't these two schools still hate each other?
  4. Well I'm back on bluegrasspreps giving my opinion and my opinion only. I can't believe that Kevin Listerman would be on the list of coach's that should get the job. He played at Covcath correct? Okay that's like having Coach K coming to coach at UK. I'm sorry but that should never happen. I have stated over and over that Steve Hunt is the best fit for this position. He has a great relationship with the kids, understands the game of basketball like no one else. He's has put his time in as an assistant for the girls and recently the boys. He has put his time in. Now it's time to give him a shot. I know in all my heart that he will do a great job. He will teach these kids the fundamental of basketball and will always preach team first. He is a great teacher of the game and give him time and he will turn this program around. His life is basketball and high school athletes. He has a passion for kids like no other. I haven't ran into a kid yet that doesn't like him and can talk to him about anything.
  5. Skeletons. Please private message me this. Just curious.
  6. The main reason I think Steve qualifies for the position is I have known him a long time. I know how much he knows about the game of basketball. He is one of the best players to ever come out of Highlands, and could be the best point guard to ever play there. He played at a Div 1 level, and is a very likeable person. He gets along we'll with the players, and if he's in charge he has the last say in the matter. He can and will work with these kids in the off season, especially the guard play. He just understands the game of basketball. But ultimately it comes down to Dale Mueller and the principle.
  7. I went to the casino the first weekend it was over and I won't be back for awhile. Way too many gang bangers, instead of over-the-Rhine shootings, they will migrate to the horseshoe. The best to go is early in the morning during the week where it isn't packed. Place smelled like weed, and was offered drugs a few times. The crime will only raise up, especially here. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few shootings in the casino by this years end. It was that bad if u follow me. I would rather travel to Indiana, at least I won't have to watch my back. ONLY IN CINCY!! Great location idiots. I just saw a bunch of gang bangers walking around, and known of them spending money or gambling. It's all bad, jus sayin....
  8. First of all I'm nobody's campaign manager. The team did turn around at the end of the season. The problem with highlands is that the kids can't or don't practice in the off season. I'm sorry they wouldn't like those comments but I firmly believe the truth hurts sometimes. I'm just calling what I saw. I believe he's put his time in for a JV coach on both girls and boys. An assistant coach doesn't call the shots. The head coach does, and if he doesn't perform then the blame goes down the line. I just believes he deserves a shot for the time he already has put in. I will say the turn around that took place after they were crushed by NCC during the season was pretty amazing. I didn't see another game after that until they were beat by NCC in the district. He's a very likeable person and the kids like him. That's a start. I just believes he deserves a chance, that's it.
  9. Well when I was a player I didn't rely on an assistant coach to help me improve. I attended camps and practiced my butt off in the off season. In fort Thomas we have the armory and several places to practice basketball. I'm accountable for me getting better, just another excuse. If you want to learn how to play the point, it's called practice. I won't say names on here and give my opinion if its negative towards a player.
  10. With all the injuries Witte had to play the 3. Did u come to any of the games this year? The reserve team played more organized than the varsity at times. Houliston is a two guard. I'm just saying that Witte isn't a true point guard. I've been around long and understand the game. I can't be as blunt as I want to on here cause I might hurt some people's feelings. When your down 49 to 9 in a high school game and getting beat by teams u have know business losing to, your team is not that good period. Actions speak louder than words. I'm just reiterating the results, I'm not predicting what hasn't been done yet. I watched and it was all bad, period. If Wire can get some weight on him he shows signs, but I'd imagine someone will come up through the ranks. First off, just wanna see who the next coach will be.
  11. Well I can understand not believing it but look at the stat book. When he was being recruited by troy they were amazed at this stat. Also in his bio as a troy st. Player this statement is in there. It's all good, most people won't believe it and they won't believe his team scored 258 points in a single game either. Thanks for welcoming me to the site. I actually enjoy your posts, they make sense...
  12. Steve was an assist at Lloyd for a few years before Flynn brought him in when he got the job at Highlands. He was the assistant for coach Higgins and Lucy Cecil when they were head coaches for the girls team at HHS. they went to state a couple times. Coach Hunt and Flynn bumped heads this year. I think Steve just became so frustrated on what was going on with the team and his voice didn't have much of a say that he was in a weird position. I don't know the full details but I'm probably right. HHS suffered a lot of injuries this year, I especially losing a double digit scorer in Hergott. They never had a true point guard which hurt them. U can't consistently pick up your dribble as soon as u cross half court. They just weren't that good this year. In fact, that was the worst Highlands team I've ever seen. They turned around down the stretch and gave NCC a run for their money. Again the point guard position hurt them. Their point guard should have played the 3, but they didn't have anyone that could bring the ball up the court. Gain I just hope they give Steve a shot. He deserves it and the players really like him. I think he is the front runner for the job, but I'm not 100 percent.
  13. HHS needs a coach that is passionate about basketball and knows how the game of basketball is suppose to be played. I believe the answer is hiring from within. If anyone knows about coach Steve Hunt and his basketball IQ and his relationship with the kids will understand. He helped coach the girls squad at HHS and was very successful. If he is in charge and gets to call the shots he will produce results in a very timely fashion. The problem is that the kids need to practice in the off season. You only get better by doing that. His knowledge and passion for the game is what HHS needs. He was a proficient high school and div 1 player himself. He only committed one turnover his senior year. He was always out of the lime light as a player, not getting the credit he deserved. He was the only player to have a successful college career at Troy St. he has been out of the lime light his coaching career when he's the brains behind everything. Give him a shot and watch him turn this program around. Their isn't a better choice right now. Getting the kids to listen and learn basic basketball is where he will start off. I saw several games this year and I didn't see much basketball IQ on the court. Steve Hunt just needs a shot to exploit his knowledge and show what he is capable of doing. He has always been behind the scenes. I could only imagine his potential as a HEAD COACH without having his voice been second. His love, passion, and IQ of the game is surreal. I've been around him the majority of my life. THIS IS YOUR GUY HIGHLANDS, I CAN ASSURE U THAT HE WILL PUT THIS SCHOOL BACK ON THE MAP, and then some. He just needs a shot. I can have several people back this statement up!!
