If there is any solace in this for Bulldog fans, Holmes should be the pre-season #1 in N. Ky. Walter will clear this up fast, but I would guess next year will be Bolden, Chames, Housley, Hill and .... Herndon? I know there is some young talent coming so that can change depending on how hard everyone works over the "off season". I really like Housley. Great defensive player. Needs to gain confidence on the offensive end.

I dont have my rulebook as I am out of town. I cant imagine ant official not granting a re-do in that situation.

 

What if someone in the crowd has an air horn? Or what if someone in the endzone jumps and screams and tries to distract the shooter? Redo?

I don't remember a single charge being called in the entire game. On one play a

Central player drove down the lane and suddenly jumped to his right and ended up on aHolmes player's chest. If that wasn't a charge to start the ot there will never be one.

Overall, I gave the refs a "B" and I am sure Central fans can point to several calls they did not like. Correct call or not, I don't recall a single charging call.

Hawkins is a fine HS player, but those drives to the basket would get swatted in the SEC.

That same call you speak of...in the post game they asked Bosley why he didn't look up to see the ball go in. His response?

 

"I thought it was a charge so i was waiting for them to call it."

 

You know it's a bad call when even the player admits in the post game interview that he thought it was going to be called a charge, as well. I watched it in slow mo in video...Englemon was camped out in the lane for atleast 2 seconds waiting for Bosley and they still called it a charge. That gave Mad Cen a lot of momentum to start OT.

My guess on next years' starting line up:

 

Bolden

Herndon

Housely

Chames

Hill

 

Booher played Chames and Hill a lot together in the state tourney and end of region tourney...that's why I think they will go big at the 4 and 5.

Housely starts at the 3 because of how good he is defensively and the fact that he is pretty strong, despite his frame.

Herndon starts at the 2 because of how well he handles the ball. Will take pressure off Bolden, much like Palmer this year.

Bolden, obviously, returns to start at the point.

 

The only ones I can see competing for a starting position are Sr Glover, Arnold, Moore, and Greene...3 sophs to be.

 

Holmes will be extremely deep next year and have more size than this year. Off the bench:

 

5'7 Sr G Pouncy, 6'1 Soph G Greene, 6'2 SR G/F Glover, 6'2 Soph F Arnold, 6'4 JR F Avery, 6'5 Soph F Moore

 

Those are kids that no doubt in my mind will come off the bench and see time next year. Others that I could see getting playing time throughout the year if they improve:

 

6'0 Soph G Ian Brolley, 6'0 Soph G Brennon Englemon, 6'0 Soph G Martin, 6'3 Soph F Keyon Lucky (Excited about this kid...already built like Englemon as a FROSH). Also...if Coach Booher allows Jason Covington to play next year, he could be another kid that would help at the 3 with his 6'2 frame.

 

As good as Holmes was this year, they could end up being better next year with a younger team.

 

Englemon, Coston, and Palmer will all 3 be missed, though. One of the best senior classes I've ever seen come through Holmes from a both on and off the court perspective.

Air horns are illegal so he'd probably get a re-do in that situation.

 

Fans can jump and scream all they want.

 

 

To be clear, are you advocating the use of the scoring table using the scoreboard horn during free throws?

Disappointed hoops season is over for me, but will remember this season and team for a very long time. They were all great kids and I'm fortunate enough to have been able to cover them and give them exposure.

 

Really looking forward to next season as this year was basically a trial run for me with the video. I've got big things planned for next season and have the right contacts to help get it done. Stay tuned.

That was a really enjoyable game to witness yesterday. Both MC and Holmes both laid it on the line.

 

I am really happy that the Bulldogs represented the 9th Region well and gave Madison Central everything that they wanted.

 

Madison Central is a great team. You can not say that they aren't. They have the best back court tandem in the state in Bosley and Hawkins. Both are physically strong and are very good basketball players.

I can see why UK and others are looking at Hawkins. He is put together and even though he is not that tall, he has long arms. He has good bounce off the floor and his block and dunk in OT was simply a terrific play. College coaches have to like his tenacity and will to win. Bosley is equally impressive.

Central had to play most of the game without the tall athletic kid in the paint, because of foul trouble.

 

Holmes is a bit different for out of region teams to face. You will not face too many teams that are point guard dominated like Holmes is. They don't run a true traditional motion style type offense, but let Bolden probe and create it and you can hardly debate the results.

 

I thought the officiating really swung in MC's favor late in the 4th quarter and in overtime. A bunch of calls went in their favor.

 

In regards to the free throw, the ball was in the air when the horn sounded. I don't know why the horn went off, but someone was saying it was the final horn coming out of the timeout. Was that the reason for the horn?

 

In regards to the future, the future looks bright for the Bulldogs.

 

KHSAA has to be pleased with the Final Four that they have. Madison Central puts fannies in the seats.

Missed the first free throw, which was nullified by the horn. Missed the second. Hit the third to put MC up by four with a few seconds remaining in OT. Hence, huge gain for MC, since Holmes down two scores. Having said that, Holmes' 12 turnovers cost them the game, not the officiating.
