In regards to the future, the future looks bright for the Bulldogs.

 

KHSAA has to be pleased with the Final Four that they have. Madison Central puts fannies in the seats.

 

Future will be bright for the Bulldogs if Booher and Listerman et al. can succeed in keeping Bolden focused on improving his skills and not get caught up with sleazy agents, unethical coaches, promises of easy money, etc.

 

I rooted for Holmes from the upper deck in the midst of a large group of MC fans. They were nice folks. Knew their stuff. Nine-year-old MC fan sitting in front of me helped me understand a couple of calls. Should be a huge crowd tonight for the semis.

The space James gains withhis stepback is crazy. You cannot guard him.

First of all, air horns are illegal? Please elaborate. It certainly is not unlawful to possess them, and it is not unlawful to possess them in an arena. Are you suggesting that it is "illegal" to be blown by a fan during a game? Please tell me where I can find that rule, and what the penalty is. Again, I would ask for the citation to a rule. I know what constitutes a "correctable error" resulting in an award of another free throw, and I know what constitutes a lane violation, which results in an award of a second free throw. The scorer's horn, an air horn, a fan screaming and waving, etc., do not fall into either category. Where does the referee get the authority to award a "re-do" for something that doesn't fit into those categories?

 

I am not "advocating" the use of the scoring table horn. I also do not advocate screaming when Tiger Woods is about to putt, but it happens and there are no re-do's, only a possible ejection for the offender. I ask only that the rules be applied and followed. Tell me where the official is entitled to give a "re-do" because of a noise in the arena. If you take the position that a mistaken blowing of the horn is equivalent to an inadvertant whistle, another free throw should not have been awarded. The rule provides that, when a whistle is blown while the ball is in flight, if the shot is unsuccessful, the ball is awarded to whoever has the arrow because neither team has possession. Now, I don't recall, but if Holmes had the arrow - and I don't know that they did - wouldn't Holmes have been awarded the ball out of bounds when he missed the second shot?

If the first free throw had been made, I doubt if it would have been disallowed. Lose-lose for Holmes.

Thank you TOG. Sincerely. I appreciate being enlightened. But I still can't make the connection to the official getting to award another free throw. The rule says its illegal, but it doesn't say what the penalty is, or against whom it is assessed. I am missing the piece that says what constitutes a severe enough distraction to a shooter that he gets an extra free throw because of the distraction. Point is, where does an official's discretion end with respect to how much a free throw shooter can be distracted before he declares a "re-do"?

If the scoreboard horn goes off during a shooter's free throw motion and it isn't ruled a re-do then what is to stop all scoreboard operators from accidentally hitting the horn at the end of a game when the visiting team is at the line for two free throws to take the lead or to win the game?

 

 

If the ball is in the air it shouldn't be a re-do IMO and we already have differing opinions on if the ball was still in his hands when the horn went off. In the interest of fairness it has to be a re-do.

What is his wing span? He has that Rondo build.

That is who he reminds me of ... except Bolden can shoot.

 

Bolden has long arms and big hands. Not sure on his wing span but it looks like one of those that is out of proportion to his height.

My guess on next years' starting line up:

 

Bolden

Herndon

Housely

Chames

Hill

 

Booher played Chames and Hill a lot together in the state tourney and end of region tourney...that's why I think they will go big at the 4 and 5.

Housely starts at the 3 because of how good he is defensively and the fact that he is pretty strong, despite his frame.

Herndon starts at the 2 because of how well he handles the ball. Will take pressure off Bolden, much like Palmer this year.

Bolden, obviously, returns to start at the point.

 

The only ones I can see competing for a starting position are Sr Glover, Arnold, Moore, and Greene...3 sophs to be.

 

Holmes will be extremely deep next year and have more size than this year. Off the bench:

 

5'7 Sr G Pouncy, 6'1 Soph G Greene, 6'2 SR G/F Glover, 6'2 Soph F Arnold, 6'4 JR F Avery, 6'5 Soph F Moore

 

Those are kids that no doubt in my mind will come off the bench and see time next year. Others that I could see getting playing time throughout the year if they improve:

 

6'0 Soph G Ian Brolley, 6'0 Soph G Brennon Englemon, 6'0 Soph G Martin, 6'3 Soph F Keyon Lucky (Excited about this kid...already built like Englemon as a FROSH). Also...if Coach Booher allows Jason Covington to play next year, he could be another kid that would help at the 3 with his 6'2 frame.

 

As good as Holmes was this year, they could end up being better next year with a younger team.

 

Englemon, Coston, and Palmer will all 3 be missed, though. One of the best senior classes I've ever seen come through Holmes from a both on and off the court perspective.

 

Rumor has it Green is going to Holy Cross next year and possibly Jeffries (Jeffreys?) as well. That could change the situation among potential varsity and JV guards significantly. Also, don't know of anyone named Martin among current Holmes players -- maybe someone will be arriving or maybe I simply don't recognize everyone's last name.

I'd be surprised if Green ended up at HC...both him and his mom are happy with his situation at Holmes and know that he will be a contributor next year on what is probably preseason #1 team.

 

Jeffries is a possibility but from my understanding he couldn't get in there over the summer so I don't know how it would work now. And I'm not sure HC coaching staff would take him........
