The only member of the freshman team to make all tourney team in regional tournament if I recall. Although Horace sounds like the kind of name his dad would use on a site like this.

Rumor has it Green is going to Holy Cross next year and possibly Jeffries (Jeffreys?) as well. That could change the situation among potential varsity and JV guards significantly. Also, don't know of anyone named Martin among current Holmes players -- maybe someone will be arriving or maybe I simply don't recognize everyone's last name.

With the lack of talent HC has coming back, I am sure many Holmes kids who may be coming off the bench next year might want to take a look at where they want to get a better education......errrr get more time on the court. JOKE

See Jalen AVery (Holmes middle schooler, then Indian), Pouncy and Chames booted off HC team and end up in Holmes uniforms (Chames key player on Bulldog 9th Region Championship run), Christian McClendon was once on Holmes' roster as a Frosh I believe and he ended up at HC.

 

Just a bunch of kids looking for a better educational experience I am sure.

Not underestimating him at all. Kid is a great shooter that can really fill it up. I know the coaching staff is excited about him and his future. Coach Booher knows he has a lot of young talent coming up. He will develop those kids and have them ready to contribute by seasons end.

Sorry for the double emoticon -- I swear I was only confused once! Anyway, is this revolving door peculiar to Holmes and Holy Cross? My impression is that athletes and non-athletes alike migrate frequently for any number of reasons. And I'm not even taking the whole basketball prep school phenomenon into consideration because I know so little about those institutions.

 

As for the "educational experience" comment, I respectfully quote Emo Phillips: "I am no stranger to sarcasm."

First of all, air horns are illegal? Please elaborate. It certainly is not unlawful to possess them, and it is not unlawful to possess them in an arena. Are you suggesting that it is "illegal" to be blown by a fan during a game? Please tell me where I can find that rule, and what the penalty is. Again, I would ask for the citation to a rule. I know what constitutes a "correctable error" resulting in an award of another free throw, and I know what constitutes a lane violation, which results in an award of a second free throw. The scorer's horn, an air horn, a fan screaming and waving, etc., do not fall into either category. Where does the referee get the authority to award a "re-do" for something that doesn't fit into those categories?

 

I am not "advocating" the use of the scoring table horn. I also do not advocate screaming when Tiger Woods is about to putt, but it happens and there are no re-do's, only a possible ejection for the offender. I ask only that the rules be applied and followed. Tell me where the official is entitled to give a "re-do" because of a noise in the arena. If you take the position that a mistaken blowing of the horn is equivalent to an inadvertant whistle, another free throw should not have been awarded. The rule provides that, when a whistle is blown while the ball is in flight, if the shot is unsuccessful, the ball is awarded to whoever has the arrow because neither team has possession. Now, I don't recall, but if Holmes had the arrow - and I don't know that they did - wouldn't Holmes have been awarded the ball out of bounds when he missed the second shot?

 

It's impossible for ANY rulebook to cover EVERY possible scenario. So officials have to use judgement. They are given that right to use judgement by rule 2-3 which says "the referee shall make decisions on ANY points not covered in the rulebook."

 

I'm shocked that any fan would argue that a horn going off during a FT should be ignored. Common sense says it cannot be ignored.

Missed the first free throw, which was nullified by the horn. Missed the second. Hit the third to put MC up by four with a few seconds remaining in OT. Hence, huge gain for MC, since Holmes down two scores. Having said that, Holmes' 12 turnovers cost them the game, not the officiating.

The last free throw was his original 2nd free throw. The middle free throw or the "re-do", he missed. There was only "gain" from his rightful 2nd free throw, not the re-do.
