Districts...blind draw vs seeding

Recommended Posts

Can anyone shed light on this aspect of the high school post season...is there $$ shared by the schools that advance to the regionals (hence the desire for a blind draw for possibly the small schools)? and two...IMO...the smaller schools have the All A so therefore the districts should be seeded to get the best teams/games for the regional...anyone with knowledge?

Not sure what you are asking but I think you are asking if only teams making the Region get money or a bigger share of money so therefore teams will vote for a blind draw to try and have a shot at the regional money? If so, I think that has been addressed before by some districts whereby the "seed" vote schools have offered to share their region money equally with the "draw" vote schools in exchange for seeding the district. So basically no monetary gain by making the Region versus not making it.

Thanks! I was kind of getting at the pro's and con's of the incentive of why the khsaa doesn't remove the "vote" and just seed the districts in order to get the best teams. Didn't know if money actually did factor in... Or if it was just a desire of the smaller schools to actually get the possibility of a favorable draw and advance to district finals...

First it is a monetary advantage to make the regionals.

Second the All A is not a state sanctioned tournament and it includes many schools that are 2A and 3A.

Third the reason the state will not mandate seeding is because at that point they will get pushed for classification. And yes this state needs to classify as they do in every other state in the country.

Fourth it is not about participation trophies or any other snide comments..............It is about what is reasonable. A school that has 1400 students really has a distinct advantage over a school with 200 students. And if you say well it is about seeing who the best is.......then why is football classified? Why does track have some classes? But no other sports get classified?

Fifth...... yes....every once in awhile a small school does advance..............BUT that is a very few and far in between scenario.

I do not disagree that the blind draw is not really good but I also think not classifying sports is not good either..........

The reason Kentucky high school basketball is so good is because we don't classify!

There is only one state champion in this state... Yes, the Louisville and Lexington areas bring the best talent every year but when that small school/underdog finds their way, all of Rupp Arena is rooting for them! That's what makes it special!!

All things must change over time................This is just an archaic system that NOBODY else uses. Have to start thinking with heads and logic and not emotion.

In the last 10 years, small rural schools have won 30% of the titles (I'm considering Mason Co. a small rural school and Shelby Valley). The day Kentucky goes to multiple classes in basketball is the day I become less interested.

Mason County is NOT a small school............................

enrollment of 821. Yes, not a small school, but not a large school by any means. It would of meant so much more if they could of been named 2A state champs instead of Kentucky State Champs.
