January 6, 201313 yr A Luck playoff game 1st half passing yards 143 yards Andrew Luck already has more passing yards in the 1st half of his very first playoff game than Andy Dalton had in his entire game yesterday. Just thought I'd post the update
January 6, 201313 yr Luck 5-13 for 31 yards. Bottom line for me - the Bengals need at least two more good offensive linemen, a running back and another receiver before I am ready to get rid of Dalton. You know, I was right there with you on this thinking. After yesterday, not so much. Playoff winning QBs hit a wide open AJ Green in the endzone to win the game.
January 6, 201313 yr You know, I was right there with you on this thinking. After yesterday, not so much. Playoff winning QBs hit a wide open AJ Green in the endzone to win the game. I agree. All I am saying to the haters is there is nothing the Bengals can do about it. They have too many bigger problems offensively. They just have to stick with Dalton, keep working, hope he gets better and fix the bigger problems first.

They just have to stick with Dalton, keep working, hope he gets better and fix the bigger problems first. I am actually with you on this. When we got Dalton I wasn't upset, actually on another site I used to have a Dalton Signature showing my support, but I also as I stated before would like to see him progress, and he hasn't shown me any improvement in his throwing abilitiy. That is and has been my major concern with him, now I have even more concerns such as lack of ability to audible, too many times I have seen AJ covered man on man off the line and instead of going to a quick slant he still runs the original play it seems where AJ runs deep where the safety has time to come over and help over the top where AJ ends up being double covered and Dalton consistently throwing into those double and triple coverages which more times than not end in an incompletion or interception. The lack of improvement is my main concern. True Bengals have many needs, but ignoring your QB position until you fill the other needs with better players will result in 1 thing and that is your good players now will have too many years on them before anything is done and then it's too late and before you know it you are looking at AJ's and others replacements and the cycle continues. that has been Mike Browns biggest problem, he never addresses the needs at the time they arise and by the time he finally addresses them he has more holes to fill. The O-line is a perfect example, that needed fixed after the 2nd week of the 2006 season and all he did was ignore it for too long and look what happened, he waited too long and by then are great players at the time were done with and their careers were about over if they were even still with the team...aka TJ Houshmandzadah, Chad Johnson, Carson Palmer, Eric Steinbach etc. So when you continue to ignore the holes that need to be filled with quality players at the time they need fixing you only continue the same stupid cycle this franchise has been in for over 20 years. So lets say you work on the holes that need fixing before you address your QB position then what do you get....AJ if still on the team will be in his 6th-7th season, your D-Line will be totally different, basically all your strengths today will be on the end of their careers, and that is if we actually address those needs now and get players in here that we need instead of signing re-treads that were great players 6-7-8 years ago.

January 6, 201313 yr [TABLE=class: tborder, width: 100%, align: center] [TR] [TD=class: alt1, bgcolor: #EEEEEE]Here is an article on Dalton and his poor performance. Disappointing Dalton It’s flown surprisingly under the radar, but Andy Dalton (-1.9) hadn’t had the kind of season to scare many opposition defenses. Reliant more on his receivers making plays and a stellar pass blocking offensive line, the sophomore quarterback brought his problems into this game and left you with no doubt as to what they are. He doesn’t know what to do when pressure gets in his face. The Bengals hid this well during the regular season. He faced pressure on only 25.7% of plays — fourth-lowest of 38 qualifying quarterbacks — within an offense that saw him get rid of the ball in 2.5 seconds or under on 60.8% of drop-backs (only Matt Hasselbeck and Chad Henne had a higher percentage). Yet in the playoffs you can’t hide flaws so easily, and with the Texans aggressive defense came pressure on 40% of drop-backs. He did not respond well. Here he took two sacks, scrambled twice and completed only 3 of 10 attempts for 11 yards. Or 1.1 yards per attempt. There are more questions than answers with Dalton at this stage of his career, as his second postseason game highlighted. January 7, 201313 yr Dalton is no better than an average QB in the NFL, does not have a big arm and does not run particularly well. You can be a very good QB in the NFL without a big arm or great legs. However, you better have that "it" factor...the ability to extend the play when things break down-make something out of nothing. Dalton definitely does NOT have that ability and I doubt he ever will. He is also only average from an accuracy standpoint. Let's face it. Playing QB in the NFL is extremely hard. Try standing in the pocket with 4 or more guys attacking you trying to rip your head off and throw the ball 30 yards down the field to hit a moving target with about a 3 foot window to fit it into. Being an average QB in the NFL means you are a GREAT QB. However, I don't think he will ever be able to take the Bengals any further than he has this year. In short, I just don't see a lot of upside with him. I hope I am wrong but don't think so.
January 7, 201313 yr Green makes Dalton look good, an elite QB makes 5th round picks look good. True and not a single person has said he was elite or even close to elite. I honestly wouldn't mind if the Bengals looked into seeing if they could trade a middle round pick for Ryan Mallet from the Pats. I didn't really like Mallet coming out, but I wouldn't mind him now after two years sitting behind Brady. Dalton would still be the starter, but if he still is not showing progress next year. Then give the big arm Mallet a shot.
January 7, 201313 yr I kept saying Brees and Montana were dumb comparisons an you kept coming back to Brees. That's on you. Brees may have struggled but he's really good. Dalton probably isn't going to ever be really good. It's a dumb comparison. Always has been. There's less than a 1% chance he's ever that good yet you kept coming back No it is not. I have never even said it is a guarntee he will be that good. However you act like its a guarntee he won't ever be better than just average, and so that is for why I talk about Brees. People would have said the samething about Brees after two years, and he is the same type player. Dalton may never end up being better than just average, however it is not impossible like you seem to make it. So which is why Brees is the perfect example, since you talk about his arm being the reason. Dalton throw two years actually has been more successful than Brees. So if Brees can turn it around, then its not impossible for Dalton to. He might never do it though, and I never said it was a for sure thing. It just not right to say it is impossible, just like the majority of the fans on here who have thought it was impossible for the Bengals to be a playoff team the last two years.
January 7, 201313 yr Why would you trade draft picks for a guy that will be available as a free agent? Dalton is a less accurate Smith right now. Smith is not the answer here. He may be the answer somewhere with a great coach and a great D but not here. He does have a great defense here. Even yesterday the defense played pretty darn good considering the they were on the field all game because the offense sucked. Now you may be right on the coaching.
January 7, 201313 yr Dalton should have been the starter last year and he wasn't or isn't terrible. He just misses most throws downfield b/c his arm isn't strong. I've said it all along. Most people argued well he made that one good throw here or there. Doesn't matter. He can't make the downfield throws that are necessary to win right now. Maybe that develops maybe it doesn't. With his arm my guess is it doesn't. As far as what I would do I'd offer Dalton for Romo then draft a QB in the first round of this year or next years draft. I get that Romo isn't the answer but he's better for the next two years than Dalton will be and you have to hope to get lucky in the draft with someone with a big enough arm to carry you. I doubt the Cowboys would go for that, but I would love to have Romo. Even though I do believe there is a chance Dalton can end up getting better and being more consistent. You have convinced to that it would be nice to see a QB who does have a true big arm to be with Green.
January 7, 201313 yr No it is not. I have never even said it is a guarntee he will be that good. It just not right to say it is impossible, just like the majority of the fans on here who have thought it was impossible for the Bengals to be a playoff team the last two years. I know Drew Brees. He was a good friend of mine... and you Andy Dalton are no(and never will be) Drew Brees:cool:.
January 7, 201313 yr No it is not. I have never even said it is a guarntee he will be that good. However you act like its a guarntee he won't ever be better than just average, and so that is for why I talk about Brees. The problem with your argument is this....Dalton has actually shown people over 34 NFL starts that he isn't that good, yet you are using nothing, not a shred of evidence to prove that he will be very good. So right now, as we sit here the evidence is more on the side of the argument that Andy Dalton isn't very good than on the side of him being a great QB. If we wanted to play the what will happen in the future game then I bet you are one of the thousands in this area who stated the Bengals would be multi SB champions in the next few years heading into the 2005 playoffs. How did that work out? Now I'd like to ask you about your other statement you keep making about Brees. You say that everyone thought he was a bad QB after hhis first 2 years....you couldn't be more wrong. You see what happened between his 1st and 2nd season was huge improvements. He finished his 2nd season on a bad team with more TD's than INT's he also finished with over 3200 yards passing which at the time is very good. The game was different even back in 2001 than it is today. Drew Brees was always considered a very good QB, the only time he was doubted was when he was injured. I don't understand where you come up with thinking he was considered a bad QB...he never was.
