December 28, 201213 yr Author No its not when your arguments against him were the same arguments against Brees after his first two years. You made up your mind on him about him only being average before he even played a game, so your trying your best to stick with it. Which you could end up being right and he always could be just average and just a game manager. I am not saying that its a guarntee that he will be a top 10 QB, like you seem to be acting like its a guarntee that there is no way he can ever be a top 10 QB. Which the whole Brees things shows how it is wrong to think like that, no one would have thought he would have become what he is back then either. Honestly if he can just learn to be more consistent that would be the only thing keeping him from being top 10 right now, so definitely possible it can happen. Thats the only reason I argue it since you make it seem like it would be impossible to happen which its not. I made up my mind his arm is average. It is. Brees has been very successful but he has a lot going for him. A great offensive minded coach. A Dome. The league rules have changed and it really helps him. For every guy that has turned out to be as good as Brees there have been 30 guys that just aren't good enough. I'll guess Dalton ends up being more like the 30 than the 1. Again, I hope I'm wrong.

That was one argument I use to say about Palmer because of how bad his OC had become because his OC became predictable after a few big years. However if Brees had sucked the whole time in San Diego and only became good once he went to the Saints then I could really buy what your saying even more. However he became a top 10 guy in his third year while still in San Diego after being horrible. Which by the way you still seem to be the only one who can't get past his arms. What if the guys had said his arm was plenty good enough coming out of college, would you then still think this? Because the guys who were saying he didn't have a strong enough arm coming out of college have now even said his arm is stronger than they thought and good enough for the NFL. So why do you let people's opinions before the draft effect your opinion now, when their opinion has also changed?
December 28, 201213 yr Yep. You backed that guy to the hilt:lol: True and even though I would have liked to seen how he would have done with Jay Gruden as his OC and a receiver like Green who runs the right routes. I have admitted I was wrong on him, I can't really make that argument anymore when he hasn't been able to support it haha.
December 28, 201213 yr Just because you can throw it far does not mean you have a strong arm. The question is what trajectory you must use to get the ball there. Every single qb in the NFL and College can throw the pass from the opposite hash to the WR running a 15-20 yard out route. The question is can you throw it on a rope or a line with sufficient velocity? One thing to remember about Drew Brees is that he was a world class talented tennis player when he was younger. I have mentioned this video before about Brees. SportScience had him compete against a guys shooting a bow/arrow, Brees threw a football, at a bullseye at 20yards. Drew Brees hit the bullseye 10 for 10. The bow/arrow guys was 8 for 10!!

Brees makes up for not having the strongest arm by his accuracy and timing and being able to fit the ball into the small windows there are to throw in, in the NFL. Yet it took Brees two years of playing in the NFL and struggling at doing these things before he started to become consistent at it. Dalton no doubt has a lot of areas to improve on, just like Brees did after his first two years. Brees actually had even more to improve on after his first two years. Now will Dalton have the work ethic that Brees has to get better at those areas and more consistent we will see. My whole thing is that it is possible for Dalton to.
December 30, 201213 yr Dalton will be the one aspect that keeps Cincinnati from advancing in the playoffs this year. He just isn't very good.

December 31, 201213 yr Author Brees has a year where he threw for 5400+yards, 46 TD's and completed over 71% of his passes. I'll bet every penny I have that Dalton doesn't have a season like that.

Once again never said Dalton will end up being as good as Brees. What I have said is that it is wrong for you to act like it is impossible for him to even become a top 10 QB. I use Brees as an example because everything fits exactly like it did with Dalton. Brees fell in the draft to the 2nd round because people was not sure of his arm even though he had a great college career. Both QB's are not that big of QB's and don't have the strongest arms to have to rely on accuracy and timing if they want to do well. Brees after 2years honestly wasn't even average, he was bad enough for the Chargers to draft a new QB in the 1st round. Dalton has been a little better than average and just knowing how to win. So yes if a QB like Brees who was not even as good as Dalton after 2 years can end up being elite and breaking records. Then a guy like Dalton definitely can get to a level of being a top 10 QB one day. Never said it is a sure thing, but it is not impossible like you seem to make it out to be.
December 31, 201213 yr Agreed, if Bengals are smart, they keep on eye out on new QB's in the draft the next few years, I don't think the Dalton experiment will last very long. I am all for them drafting a QB sometime in next years draft and even as early as the 2nd round if the right guy is there. Dalton is the starter, but if the right guy is there take him and have him sit behind Dalton. Then if Dalton is not making any gains or is regressing in his third year which is a huge year for a QB. Then you already have another QB that your getting ready.
December 31, 201213 yr Dalton will be the one aspect that keeps Cincinnati from advancing in the playoffs this year. He just isn't very good. If he plays like he has the last few weeks then you will be right. The Bengals run in the playoffs will depend on him, he has to start being more consistent if they want to make a run. He has shown signs of doing that during a few games, and then a few games he misses a lot of easy throws. The playoff run does go as he goes.
December 31, 201213 yr Bengals win last 7 of 8. So yeah let's rip the QB. Never mind that the Oline is inconsistent at best, They have no big play threat at RB, the TE is a head case, and they have only one reciever worth talking about. Yep, better be drafting a QB right away:rolleyes:

He is the all time best winning percentage QB in bengal history minimum 20 games. 19-13 Two years to playoff births. He won at TCU. Seems to be a good leader and you would think it will get better with him. If he manages the game, and does not turn the ball over, this team has a chance. He may not be a top tier QB but neither was Trent Dilfer and he has a ring. I want a bunch of AD on my team, the kid works hard and he is respected. Let's see how it plays out for a couple of years but in the mean time enjoy. Back to back playoffs for first time in 30 years. Savor the success because it is rare around here. Not specifially talking to you malachi, but the rest of them on this thread that want to knock a guy that wins.
December 31, 201213 yr Dalton will be the one aspect that keeps Cincinnati from advancing in the playoffs this year. He just isn't very good. I understand your bitterness with the organization, from being a season ticket holder for many years but even you probably are somewhat excited about what is going on. Dalton is a winner. He is a respected leader in the locker room and a hard worker. He will never be elite, probably not top ten, but he is winning games and around here it is a long time coming. If the kid manages the game and does not turn it over, with our D they will have a chance. Think 2000 Baltimore Ravens. Not saying Bengal D is that caliber but you see the connection with Lewis. He tried the first round draft choice QB and it did not work out. Who knows they may be 4-12 next year especially probably losing both coordinators this year. Back to back playoffs for first time in 30 years. Try to enjoy
