December 17, 201213 yr So nobody could make a case for him being higher than 21? Seems right. Everyone knows if he had a bigger arm there is no way he would have fell to them where he did right? He's an average QB that has a chance to be above average bc of scheme and AJ Green. No more no less Guess you're the one and only that wants Carson the Great back. He has a big arm...
December 17, 201213 yr Author Completely laughable that Dalton keeps being mentioned in the same world as Montana and Brees. Let's compare him to non all timers so I can take comparisons seriously.
December 17, 201213 yr Author Guess you're the one and only that wants Carson the Great back. He has a big arm... No. I thought a change of scenery would do him some good. He either wasn't nearly as good as I thought or the elbow injury affected him really bad. Just b/c CP isn't good that doesn't mean Dalton is good right?
December 17, 201213 yr Dalton is a serviceable Chad Pennington. He won't be a blue chipper MVP, but he will help the Bengals contend.

Just b/c CP isn't good that doesn't mean Dalton is good right? But Carson has a cannon. That seems to be the premise of your point.
December 17, 201213 yr My take, is that Dalton's arm strength is average. I believe his main issues right now are accuracy and not being able to improvise when a play breaks down.
December 17, 201213 yr I'm not saying every QB with an average arm can't be good. Just that Dalton isn't that good and part of the reason is arm strength. In the 4 books you wrote on here you haven't named 1 QB ranked ahead of Dalton you would take Dalton over. He's 21st on that list. That's pretty telling that he's average or below average to me. Completely laughable that Dalton keeps being mentioned in the same world as Montana and Brees. Let's compare him to non all timers so I can take comparisons seriously. The Brees one is a great comparison. Both slid down to the top of the 2nd rounds because they didn't have rocket arms. Only difference so far this early in their careers is that Dalton has been better. Lets not forget the Chargers drafted Rivers in the first round because Brees had been that disappointing so far in this first two years. Them two are very similar in style, and Dalton has already started off better than Brees. Yes Dalton has Green, but Brees had one of the best back in football in LT to rely on to take the pressure off of him and he still struggled. I am not going to say Dalton will end up having as good as career to Brees. However he has a chance to be very good, with the possibility of being great like him. Once again your still the only one held up on his arm strength because people said he didn't have a good arm coming out. Yet those same people who apparently you got your opinion from have even said his arm strength was better than they thought to do well in the NFL.

His arm definitely is just average not horrible has SSC makes it out to be but definitely not a rocket arm. He has to rely on timing and accuracy, and if he not being accurate then yes he will struggle.
December 17, 201213 yr Author But Carson has a cannon. That seems to be the premise of your point. Carson had some pretty good numbers and played well for a time. I'm saying Dalton is serviceable and average.

Care to chime in on who he should be above on the rankings or is 21st right?
December 17, 201213 yr I've said average or below average, not horrible. Care to chime in on who he should be above on the rankings or is 21st right? I am fine with 21st. As I said he doesn't have the wow factor like in the intangibles that people look at when they rank QB's. Now just because he is 21st doesn't mean he is average too. He is a good QB who is a winner, and has the stats to show he is a good QB. He also has done better than most rookies in the history of the NFL in both stats and wins. That speaks for itself. You can look around the NFL and you can literally find about 23 teams who will say they are set at the QB spot because they have good QB's and the Bengals being one of them. If a team just had an average QB as you say, then that would be a need a team would look at. Which even the guy who ranks him 21st would probably even say the Bengals are just fine at QB and don't need to find one. The reason is because he is a good QB, just other guys might have the better qualities like stronger arms. However doesn't mean they produce as well, and that once again shows in the stats I will say this Ron Jaworski who is a better judge of NFL QB's than the guy you posted ranked Dalton 17th.
December 17, 201213 yr Carson had some pretty good numbers and played well for a time. I'm saying Dalton is serviceable and average. And Carson was a #1 draft pick, with big arm, but yet has won nothing in the NFL. I'm still not sure what the point is here? Are you saying that due to having an average NFL arm that a team that Dalton is on can't be successful?
December 17, 201213 yr I'd take Dalton over Flacco or Bradford in a heartbeat. Probably over Cam or Alex Smith as well.

Are you saying that due to having an average NFL arm that a team that Dalton is on can't be successful? No, I'm saying to be very successful he needs a great head coach and a great defense. He isn't good enough to win games with his arm, he's good enough to be a game manager when he isn't making dumb throws.
December 17, 201213 yr Author I'd take Dalton over Flacco or Bradford in a heartbeat. Probably over Cam or Alex Smith as well. I would take Alex Smith right now, but I think Dalton will have a better career resume. I would take Bradford and Newton without ever thinking about it and I am not a big fan of Newton at all. Hard to argue with what Flacco has done so I'd take him, but he isn't that good either. He's a dropped ball away from a SB appearance so I'd give him the nod easily over Dalton right now. Flacco, Smith and Dalton are all pretty much in the same grouping if I was ranking them.
