Andy Dalton

Bengals win last 7 of 8. So yeah let's rip the QB. Never mind that the Oline is inconsistent at best, They have no big play threat at RB, the TE is a head case, and they have only one reciever worth talking about. Yep, better be drafting a QB right away:rolleyes:

I am with you on the offensive line. I think that is their #1 priority in the upcoming draft. Really, the whole draft is about the offense with the exception of perhaps safety on defense.

And a strong side linebacker. They need to get rid of Ray and move Burflict to the middle.

Halfway through the season, I would have agreed with you. I think Ray has played well the last half of the season. If Howard comes back, I would be good with Howard, Ray and Burfict at LB. Put Howard and Burfict on either side of Ray and that would be solid. I also think the Lamar kid has potential.

He still is picking sides instead of scraping blocks. He created a couple of huge holes yesterday by guessing a gap or b gap and then getting pushed out by the Ravens Oline.

You are not concerned w/ his slip in accuracy?

Not really. QB will not be a priority for the Bengals in the off season.

I am not saying it should be a priority to draft a QB, however I would be against them getting one maybe in the middle rounds if the right one is there. Its the same reason why the Redskins drafted another QB a few rounds later after drafting RG3. Always good to have a good backup and if you have a good young one then one day that guy could be good draft bait.

From Dalton's Bengals.com profile...

ONLY ANDY: Elias Sports Bureau confirms that Dalton in 2011 became the first rookie QB in NFL history to start as many as eight wins and throw as many as 20 TD passes ... Since 1978, when the NFL went to a 16-game schedule, Dalton is the only rookie QB not selected in the first round to start 16, much less start them all, and also lead his team into postseason.

MORE HISTORY-MAKERS: With 3398 passing yards, Dalton became only the fifth rookie in NFL history to hit 3000 for a season, joining Peyton Manning, Cam Newton, Sam Bradford and Matt Ryan ... On Sept. 11 at Cleveland, Dalton directed the offense to scores on the first three possessions, the first time that had happened in a Bengals season opener ... On Sept. 18 at Denver, set Bengals rookie passing record with 332 yards, and he surpassed that mark with 373 yards Nov. 20 at Baltimore ... Also at Denver, he and WR A.J. Green became first rookie pair in NFL history to combine for 10 completions in a game ... In the Cleveland and Denver games, Dalton joined Hall of Famer Dan Marino in becoming only the second rookie since the 1970 merger to log a 100-plus rating in each of his first two starts (102.4 at Cleveland; 107.0 at Denver). Dalton became one of three players in NFL history with at least 20 touchdown passes in each of his first two seasons, joining Peyton Manning and Dan Marino.

Dalton is going to be a very above average quarterback for a long time...Other than Green and an inconsistent Gresham he hasn't had much to work with

Not opposed to drafting a backup

Agreed and that is what I am talking about. Obviously I don't think they should be drafting a new QB to replace him right now, or else I wouldn't be arguing with SSC on how Dalton could possibly be top 10 one day if he gets more consistent. :D

The guy that actually breaks down stats versus just looking at raw numbers breaks down Dalton a little in this great preview for Grantland:

But you're saying not to judge the Texans for the last few weeks and then judging Dalton for his past few weeks!" Yes and no. The Texans have a 1.5-season run of excellent football that's been followed by a questionable stretch of play. Dalton's been slightly below-average for a little under two years and looked even worse over the final two games. One of these units deserves some benefit of the doubt. One doesn't.

Bill Barnwell on Saturday's slate of NFL playoff games - Grantland

The thing that jumped out outside of the Dalton stuff is the defensive turnaround. Hat tip to FC for saying early to wait until the D line got healthy and Barnwell agrees that is why they turned it around.

Tom Brady

Big Ben

Matt Schaub

Andrew Luck

Peyton Manning

Eli Manning

Tony Romo

RGIII

Aaron Rodgers

Matt Stafford

Jay Cutler

Drew Brees

Matt Ryan

Those are the QBs I would take over Dalton. I group him in the next tier with the likes of Flacco, Rivers, Freeman, Wilson, and Newton.

So that puts him in the middle of the pack. I have no problem with that at this time. I do think Romo, Stafford, Schaub, and Cutler may be more at the middle level though.

Well thank you for that for about the defense. :D And honestly I don't completely disagree with you when it comes to Dalton. I think the biggest difference with us is I don't see his arm as definitely stopping him from being a top 10 QB like you seem to do. If he can become more consistent then he can get to that level possibly. Another guy who looks at things besides just the numbers is Jaws on ESPN and he now has Dalton rated 16th and talked about how he has the potential to be great. His main problem with him is that he holds onto the ball a little to long and to conservative, when he thinks Andy should have thrown it because Jaws believes his arm is strong enough to fit it in there. Just Andy gets to conservative at times.

Very Brees like in that half. Or was that more like Montana?

Did Rodney Harrison call him a high school qb?
