I have friends who are Louisville fans on both sides of the fence on this. Most are thrilled that he is back but there are others who aren't really sure how great he is. For much of the year, the team was underwhelming against extremely mediocre competition. Heck, they were 9-0 and not in the national championship picture whatsoever.

 

Personally, I think it is great for UL to hold on to him and will wait to see the figures before saying he is overpaid. I also think Mr. Bridgewater has more to do with the 10-2 record than Strong. Louisville was favored in all but one game (Rutgers) this year. I'd be curious to see what other teams were favored that many times.

 

And Charlie got Bridgewater to UL. Seems like he has been able to get a little more talent in to UL. What does next season's recruiting class look like? With current commitments?

 

And who knows if the ACC will be anything more than a BEast 2.0 by the time they get there...

Jurich and Strong probably discussed money in at least a general way (as in, "I am getting at least this much, Tom") but I doubt he's lying when he says that there was only Tennessee's initial offer, a discussion with Jurich, and the rejection, rather than a bidding war back and forth. I believe that for two reasons: one, because it would be too easy for a disappointed Tennessee to embarrass Strong and Jurich with details of that bidding war if it happened, and two, because everyone here knows that the numbers being thrown around last night were ludicrous.

Which is why he should've admitted that he as cut like that. Nothing wrong with it but if anyone thinks a coach won't entertain the idea of coaching at a once successful program, in the best conference in their sport, they are extremely naive.

Don't particularly care what the details were about whether money was discussed or how Charlie Strong is "cut." This was a deal Louisville had to make as it moves towards entry into the ACC.

 

Louisville flat-out cannot build a real program if it's searching for new coaches all the time. The Petrino-to-Kragthorpe move was a disaster and Jurich knows that all too well. In order to try and build something, he had to turn Louisville into a real job with a serious paycheck. Louisville doesn't have a ton to offer a coach outside of lots and lots of money... so Jurich is offering lots and lots of money. I swear, we're going to build Jurich a statue when his time comes...
