Because at Kentucky you can get fired after three seasons, one of which included a bowl game? Louisville has NEVER fired a coach that went to a bowl game, as far as I can recall.

 

Joker also beat Tennessee. If Louisville hadn't beaten Cincinnati in a generation of yearly attempts, I don't see us firing the coach that pulls it off.

Don't particularly care what the details were about whether money was discussed or how Charlie Strong is "cut." This was a deal Louisville had to make as it moves towards entry into the ACC.

 

Louisville flat-out cannot build a real program if it's searching for new coaches all the time. The Petrino-to-Kragthorpe move was a disaster and Jurich knows that all too well. In order to try and build something, he had to turn Louisville into a real job with a serious paycheck. Louisville doesn't have a ton to offer a coach outside of lots and lots of money... so Jurich is offering lots and lots of money. I swear, we're going to build Jurich a statue when his time comes...

I don't know what the criteria are for "good job" to the average American, but I'll bet that being one of the highest paid individuals in a given field is right at the top.

From my personal perspective, the first criteria is quality of life where I will be living; second, performance expectations; third, realistic probability of said expectations; fourth, support of the organization in helping achieve those expectations. Also to be considered are ones desire to create something bigger than it is now (legacy), and be a part of something new (future). I also look at how others at my level are supported as coaches, and in commitment to those sports.
