If Louisville matched the Tennessee offer I'm reading, he's going to have to win a national title for a school to try and take him away. It's more than I thought would be on the table.

I disagree; it's the amount of money that I'm referring to. The numbers that are out there are unbelievable. Petrino's contract with UofL was 25 million over 10 years, which is about what Strong was making on his current contract (although the bonuses are sweeter for Strong.)

 

The number being thrown around from Tennessee was 23.5 million over 5 years. That's 4.7 million a year.

 

That's an absurd amount, and if Strong is worth it you're banking on what you think he might do and not what has already happened.

4.7 million would be third in the nation behind Nick Saban and Mack Brown right? You are banking on him doing more than all of the other coaches after that? Good luck.

I'm just not sure what he has done to warrant this kind of money. How many top 10 type teams have they beaten during his tenure. He owes a big thank you to BridgeWater and whoever made their schedule out.......

I'm a UK fan and would love to see UL irrelevant again, but, I understand the thinking on overpaying to keep Strong. At a minimum, UL will be a top 25 program under Strong and with the future of the ACC and UL on the line they have to be a top 25 program or run the risk of being left out during the next conference shuffle. Overpaying Strong now may turn out to be the best financial decision UL has ever made...
