I don't know what Joker played in HS but at KY he was a reciever. I also don't see the whole running QB thing. Newton is not a running QB and not since the Curry option days can I think of UK having a running QB. It should be interesting now that Towles redshirt is going to be removed. I'm really hoping for him it works out.

Think it's a bad move for Towles at this point of the season....he will waste a year IMO

According to the courier, Smith will require surgery to fix a torn ligament in his ankle and is out indefinitely. Redshirt status taken off of Towels but Whitlow will be the starter.

I completely agree. I was lucky enough by chance to meet Towles I guess his 8th grade or freshman year in HS. He ended up sitting beside me at some UK games back when I had season tickets. I followed his career and was very excited he was coming to UK. I just hope he gets a real chance to develope and be the player he is.

Okay I was right then. I thought he had been a high school QB but when I read he was a receiver at UK, I assumed (yeah, I know so don't say it) he was a receiver in high school too.

From everything I know about Towles he seems like a great young man, a great QB and a super competitor, with all of that being said I think being thrown into playing as a true freshmen, on that team with that remaining schedule is going to hurt his development and future. I wish for him they'd keep him redshirted and start him next year. If they were going to play him this year they should have played him from the start not give him half a schedule on a demoralized team.

Unfortunately, you are correct.

Mixed emotions from me. I've been wanting Towles to take over from day one. I hate it comes at the middle of the season where Samford is the only bright spot in the schedule. That being said, put Whitlow at receiver(he can't be any worse than the others) and let Towles learn from the jump from this point forward. Don't waste the redshirt and keep him on the sidelines.

I agree for the most part but I think we have really good WR's. they are showing a lot f potential for the future. Plus they are a lot better than last year

If you are a BCS program, a freaking SEC program, why would you recruit outside of your system? Is Kentucky's offense centered around a drop back passer or an athletic 'duel threat' guy. Joker can't seem to make up his mind and that goes back to his days as recruiting coordinator. They have continually brought in both kinds of qb's and go back and forth. The end result is and has been the loss of scholarship athletes as guys transfer out or stay on but are not contributing at the end of their career.

This brings us to next year. It looks like they will have Smith, whitlow, and Towles all with three years of left. My best guess is that the new coach picks one of the three in the spring. The other two will be gone. More wasted schollys.

I'm on record as saying I wanted him to redshirt.

 

With that said, I'm extremely excited to see him play.
