Due to being busy and tweaking my ankle playing softball early in the year, I'm making my 2012 debut Friday at Laurel Oaks in Maysville. Probably only play 9 this time out.

The way I look at it is this: If I'm paying for the golf, why play where I can't score from? The back tees are a nightmare on some of the courses we play here.

 

The back tees on my home course in Booneville is an area I don't venture to...ever. The two par 5's are 525 and one par 4 is 480 yards, and others are 440 and 435. One of the par 3's is 245. Thank goodness we have 4 sets of tees.

We go on my family vacation next week and play 3-4 times through the week with anywhere from 4 to 8 of us playing during the day. We usually play one less tee box then we would normally play at home because as my Uncle says we are "Cation" ... anything inside of 4 or 5 feet is usually good because you are on "Cation" as well!!!! For example if we would normally play a course that has 5 sets of tees we would always play the 2nd longest in the 6400-6800 yard range we instead will play tees in the 6000-6200 yard range. Makes "Cation" more fun when you are scoring well and driving Par 4's and reaching Par 5's in 2. Can't wait till Michigan next week.

I had the honor to play in Jacob Tamme's Swings For Soldiers Classic Monday at Keene Run. First of all, the golf course is absolutely awesome. Great layout and was in very nice shape considering the weather. Second of all, the organization it was for is becoming one of my favorite charities. Basically they build homes for wounded veterans. Oh, and my team shot 21 under par and we won! Helps to have the assistant golf coach at UK (Jessie Mudd) as the celebrity member of your group!

I've seen that a lot of people are getting rid of their 3-woods for hybrid clubs, anyone here doing that? I can't say that I really use my 3 wood at all. I usually tee with either the driver or an iron.

 

I haven't had a 3 wood in the bag for about 3 years now. I have 3 hybrids: a 15 degree, a 17 degree and a 20 degree.

Driver...3 hybrid ( hit it 220-250) and much more consistent than my old 3 wood... 5 hybrid 200-220... took out my 3 wood and 3 iron..makes golf much more enjoyable...love me some Rocketballz!!!

They are so mean. I just have the 5 wood but going to get either the 3 hybrid or regular 3 wood, leaning toward regular 3 wood since I already have a 16 degree rescue dual tp 2 and a 19 degree rescue dual 3. Either way, I've never hit a club as juiced as the RBZ.

Hole # 3 at Fox Run has always been my kryptonite. I think it's a pretty unfair setup in the summer when it's hard it's very difficult to keep the ball in the fairway..everything filters left of the path and on into the woods. Anyway..first round out with the RBZ I was sitting under the tree on the left that is even with the trap on the right...I had 261 to the green. Hit the 3 hybrid expecting to put it 30-40 yards off. Hit the 3 hybrid to 20 feet looked at my partner and screamed Rocketballz!!!! They are amazing. When I got fitted the ball speed off my R9 driver was 138mph. It jumped to 146mpg with the RBZ driver. Same 100mph swing speed. Jarrod at The Golf Exchange told me every mph you gain in ball speed is 3-4 yards so just with the new technology gained 30 yards of distance before I even got into loft and shafts. I love them!!

I hit the 3 and 5 woods but with my swing I hit the hybrids much more easily than a 3 and 5 wood. The distance you get is basically the same. The 3 and 5 hybrid shafts are as long as the 3 and 5 wood shafts so it comes down to what head you like hitting. Plus with the hybrids they are a lot more versatile to use for trouble shots and even chipping. You can't go wrong either way it's whatever fits your eye and more importantly fits your swing. Playing Fox Run tomorrow and Saturday then off to Michigan for a week of family vacation where we will play 3-4 times. I'm a little excited if you can't tell!

Jarrod at The Golf Exchange told me they sell 12 RBZ drivers to every 1 R11S driver which costs 100.00 bucks more. That should tell you all you need to know. If you watch the PGA you see way more RBZ clubs in play than R11S as well. You don't get as much adjustability with the RBZ driver compared to the R11S but once you get fitted with the correct shaft and loft you shouldn't mess with it anyway unless you are a scratch golfer that needs to adjust depending on the course and conditions.

I had the chance to play Greenbrier CC in Lexington Saturday. It's awesome. My game wasn't awesome (83) but the course itself is in awesome shape. They have Zoyzia fairways and it was like hitting off carpet (the 5 times I was in the fairway). If you ever get a chance to play it do it.
